I would like to have my rear axle differential overhauled and strengthened (I have a 4.6 liter engine). I'm looking for a company that does it well.

best regards
jorgen

Is it an axle in the MGB pictured ?
If so I think you may be borderline on durability there whatever you do with it.

Hello Jorgen,

As mentioned, is the differential in your MGB?

I have been running a 4.6 in my P6B for 13 years, no problems at all with the factory differential. I don't spin wheels, not that I am implying anything, rather just making a statement on the way that I drive :)

Ron.

no it's about my rover p6 differential

last time at full throttle a year ago i destroyed the differential :) ... good engine. hehe
I have installed a diff, but that has been many kilometers.
I want to have the broken one repaired and reinforced if it is possible

4000 miles with 4.6 and Rover diff here, again only load it up when on the move.
There was a guy supplying uprated diffs for race purposes, but alas I could not get anywhere with enquiries along the lines of when?, how much? etc.

Can you please tell us which part broke in the diff, thanks.

I have approached three companies regarding the possibility of making stronger output shafts without success. The sheared gears being the CW and pinion or the planet gears ?

I seem to remember that Classeparts did some sort of modification for the V8 to toughen it up. Don't know much more than that, and they don't have a web site anymore, so would need a phone call or email.

You can fit a jag diff, but that is a bit of a palava

There's also a chap on here somewhere who has had some Land Rover gears fitted into a P6 diff, and he runs a Buick 300, so 5 litres.

He challenged me to a drag race at a show :)

CW and pinion
Thanks

As an Elan owner I am used to preserving my machinery, if you abuse a Lotus it will break. There is no reason to not enjoy the maximum potential of your machinery ( which I do ) but if you treat the car kindly then reliability is less of an issue.

I have a spare V8 diff and a spare 2200 TC diff and a pair of L and R output shaft assemblies built up with new seals ready to fit, so if something breaks I am ready. I got to this stage after getting no where with suppliers. Classeparts talked a good job, but never divulged spec or price or timescale, same with bespoke bellcrank poly bushes, all talk and no trousers.

You can be certain that Classeparts would have divulged a very bespoke price if he had got round to divulging one. o_O

The one time l visited the premises many years ago, l kept wondering why he was quoting me so many telephone numbers when l was already there.

A 2007 price list from Classeparts included an LSD built into the customers own casing for 2290.- quid. A separate oil cooler for the diff was priced at 375.-. I couldn't afford that!

with a 3.54 the speed goes up, i want to stay at 3.08 that fits better with my R380 gearbox

but many thanks for the offer ! :)

so, once i disassembled an old diff on which the axes are sheared off. this is probably also due to too much flank play between the gears. question: do we set the right flank play with shims in the
bearing?
