Hello,
I've obtained an AC heater box from a VIP, but the bottom 1/2 inch (and a bit more) has rusted away....
Does anyone happen to have any photos of the underneath of one of these?
Any help appreciated!
many thanks,

Some random photos that i have collected through the years:

I don't remember now where these came from, i hope that the owner of the intellectual property and all that doesn't mind...

I have loads of pictures of a NADA heater box I can send you as I took mine apart and rebuilt it a few years ago. Do you still need them? If so I can send you the whole lot!!

Hi, Many thanks for all those photos! They are very helpful as this rebuild will be quite a challenge!
many thanks,
Ed

Hi keynsham1, I have a 1970 NADA 3500s and the heater motor has a squeak in particular when first turned on. I would like to see if I can lubricate it. Is the fan motor accessible without taking the heater box out? It does not look like it. I would appreciate it if you can send me any additional photos you might have of the internal heater box as well.

Thanks!

Redrover1 et al,
just a couple of lessons learned from doing mine... The whole box is sealed up with black goo between the steel sheets. The sheets are mostly held in place by hundreds of tiny phillips head self tapping screws. The black goo is not setting and needs to be replaced on assembly with a similar non setting product if you are ever going to get it all open again. The goo also covers many of the tiny screw heads which need to be carefully scraped clean before a screwdriver is used so they don't burr. They also tend to be rusted in. Small lock jaw pliers (vise-grip) can just grip the heads if they are really stuck. Being self tappers care must be taken not to enlarge the hole in the removal process as they are very short threaded and won't bite on reinstallation.

Note that the box doesn't come completely apart when you take out all the screws. various key parts are spot welded in....like the normal heater box.

The fan and motor is removed as per the manual instructions. from the top. Be careful not to break the resister comb in the air intake as they are unobtainable. The motors are available new (try holdens but others have them) If you need brushes there is a guy over here in AUS that will make them.

Thanks for the tips Michael, much appreciated. Planning on taking it out this weekend, will see how it goes. What did you replace the goo with?

Thanks,

Tony
