NADA BW35 Gearbox filler / level tube

Does anyone have one of these either new or used:

It is the gearbox filler tube assembly for a NADA spec BW35 gearbox.

Guessing that this request is unlikely to get a reply and to be honest, I didn't really expect anyone to have one of these kicking about!:LOL:So my next option would be to convert to a dipstick arrangement like the UK cars had. There seems to be a number of versions in the parts catalogue but I am assuming any of them will work.

So my next ask is does anyone have a dipstick and filler tube for a BW35 from a V8 they have no use for?:):)

Andy (eightofthem) on here may have one, if he doesn't see and answer this thread, send him a PM.

I sold my last one so the owner could do the same thing, but he was in the USA.

I always prefer the later type flexible tube and dipstick.

I have managed to source a later BW35 type dipstick and tube with the flexible top end. I am planning to fit that and remove the NADA style tube completely from the sump. I will make a blanking plate for the hole!

I could go down that route but I can make a simple blanking plate and make a gasket for it. Its easier and I don't really want to take the sump off!! (Feeling too lazy and I have done enough to the car this year I think!!)

So I have tracked down and bought the correct dipstick and tube for my car, the later one with the flexible top. All good stuff except there is an adaptor screwed into the gearbox casing to allow the dipstick tube to be attached. I currently only have a fitting screwed in which has a breather attached. Not the right part!

So assuming the required adaptor will be virtually impossible to get hold of, I decided to take off the NADA filler pipe (All the oil is all out again!) to see if it was fixable.

Disassembled, the filler is made up of a pipe, a cap, and a seal which sits inside the cap:

All parts look to be in good condition. The seal was loose though and fell out of the cap. I suspect it was not seated properly and fluid was able to pass through.

So it is all cleaned and reassembled now ready to be refitted to the gearbox.... a job for the weekend and not for the feint hearted as it is filled from under the car whilst the engine is running! Then I need to refill the box and hope for the best!

That breather tube unscrews and an adapter screws into that hole, and the dipstick screws into the adapter. I should have the adapter somewhere.

Only just read this, if you’re still after one of the original sight glass/filler assemblies, I’ve got a 2nd hand one still attached to a sump somewhere.
Roly.

The original filler I have is not damaged, but there is a seal in the top of the cap which is made of some type of oil proof rubber which has just got squashed over the years and now doesn't seal properly when the top is locked in place. I would need either a new seal or something that I can use to replace it with. I have some closed cell foam mat which has a peel back sticky side which would be ideal. I have soaked a piece in gearbox oil for a few days and it doesn't seem to be deteriorated so I could go with that. The problem is that it is such a pain to do and refill the box if it still ends up leaking! I am hoping the dipstick/filler tube conversion will solve my last fluid leak... at least for a while! ( This year I have had a seal on the diff leaking oil, and engine oil leak from the valley gasket corner at the rear of the engine, a coolant leak from the thermostat housing, a brake fluid leak from the master cylinder, and and this gearbox oil leak which I think covers all fluid possibilities!!) I am looking forward to having a dry garage floor!!!

Am I the only person who looks underneath their car for leaks every time they drive it???:LOL::LOL::LOL:

I’m feeling your pain! My nada tends to dribble from the water pump/front cover area, but only as the engine cools down, not when running. Have I been able to cure it in the last 7 years? No! There’s an oil leak started at the back of the l/h head, which I think is the rocker cover gasket & the other month the gearbox decided to haemorrhage fluid past the output shaft one day, but it hasn’t happened since!

I have had others! My power steering pump used to drip but I eventually fixed that with the correct size square section 'O' ring (who ever uses those??) I also lost all the oil out of my steering idler once and the PAS box used to leak from the bottom seal until I rebuilt it. The only liquid I have never had leaking from my car is petrol but it still seems to go somewhere at a rapid rate!:LOL::LOL:

Not sure whether you’re still after a new filler, but noticed that Pierre Janusz has got a nos one listed on eBay at the mo.
