Northern Ireland Minister for Infrastructure has announced that changes to legislation to exempt private vehicles of historic interest from annual MOT testing, come into effect from today 12 October.

Mallon announces new legislation to exempt vehicles of historic interest from MOT testing

The change applies to private vehicles constructed or first registered more than 40 years ago and aligns Northern Ireland legislation with that in GB.

".....to exempt private vehicles of historic interest from annual MOT testing."
The same small print as GB I.e. The exemption applies to vehicles which have not been substantially altered, or are no longer in production.

So that is good news in the current times, as our Gov run vehicle test centres here have been closed to private cars for nearly a year now. They found cracks in the goverment run inspection lifts in November 2019 and all car MOTs canceled from Jan 2020. We keep getting 3 month extensions, which they don;t even notify us. We can only tell by checking our cars on the online MOT checker. If your car or motorbike has been SORNed there is no way of getting an MOT to get it Taxed.
