My 3500 S - Small Update!

Hi all, I thought I would start a thread in here regarding my P6.

A mates brother has owned the car for the last couple of years and in that time he has done some welding to the inner sills, fitted complete new rear brakes and had some re-wiring done. I saw the car about a month ago and just had to buy it, although it hadn't been advertised for sale.

He wanted to sell it to me with a years MoT which is handy, and there is a reconditioned gearbox and a massive operations manual being thrown in too :D Last week he did a few odd jobs like freeing off the front brakes, changing the gearbox oil and polishing it before it went off to it's MoT. Unfortunatley it failed :( It isn't to bad though... it failed on a worn UJ on one of the rear halfshafts, trailing arm bushes, a fuel leak and a tyre.

It will be re-MoT'd this week and I hope to have it in my possesion in the next few days.

I will be keeping this up to date as there are lots of little jobs that I want to sort out which are mainly trim and interior orientated, although I will be doing some bodywork repairs (doors) in the near future.

I will post up pics as soon as I get it :D

Thanks for reading
Jim

Jealous

Very nice indeed.

I hope I can get one that looks that good

Re: My 3500 S - WITH PIC'S >>>

That looks a nice motor. What is wrong with the interior? Looks like box pleat, leather or ambla? The o/s doors look a bit ripply, is it them you are going to sort out? What sort of money was it? Best of luck, Jim :D

Re: My 3500 S - WITH PIC'S >>>

Thanks for the replies fellas :D

'TwinPlenum3500S' : Your're right, the doors are a bit boss-eyed, the passenger ones are better, but they all need a bit of attention. It looks like the bottom half of the doors have had new metal let in. I'm not sure what to do with them yet, I may look for some good secondhand doors, or I may just replace the skins. The wings have been replaced which is good, and the boot and bonnet are both very nice.

As for the interior, it is box pleat, but not sure if it's leather or vinyl. Someone has had something screwed to the parcel tray on the dashboard, the door panels need re-fitting properly, there is a tear in the rear armrest and it needs a carpet. Other than that, it just needs a good clean.

There are lots of 'odds & sods' jobs to do, so I will be asking lots of questions as this is my first Rover.

I think it was either you or Harvey P6 who answered my question regarding the steering wheels. Mine has metal spokes with the Rover emblem badge. It was said that it was a non PAS wheel... I can confirm that it doesn't have PAS. I am more than happy with that as it's one less thing to go wrong, and believe it or not, the steering is lighter than my Anglia

Lastly, I payed £1000 for it with a years MoT. Looking at the pic's, would you say it was worth it? I also got 2 spare clutches and flywheels, Rover operations bible and a re-con gearbox :D

Re: My 3500 S - WITH PIC'S >>>

£1000? Absolute bargain I'd say, I paid £500 for mine, and its gonna take a long time and money to get it to where yours is... I'm jealous... And white just looks so good on a P6 8)

Re: My 3500 S - WITH PIC'S >>>

Ive got a number for a bloke who does complete carpet sets, with underfelt and matching full size mats for £200! Bargain.

I can't think that I said that, it's the optional wheel for PAS that you have, (albeit without the PAS), what you originally asked was whether it was a 3500S wheel, which it isn't.

None of which has anything to do with what looks to be a good looking car bought for a very reasonable price. Result.

Ah fair doo's mate, I obviously got my wires a bit crossed there

Thanks for all your comments lads :D

I made some brakets up on Monday for the fog lamps I won on eBay before I bought the car  If you put the bits of metal back together, they started their life as a Dynamo bracket for a Pre Crossflow Anglia engine  They have turned out very well and it looks so much better with the lamps fitted. I will whack up a pic when it stops raining :(

I have lots of other jobs to do, but mainly bits of the interior... I have a list lol

1. O/S/R pop out quarterlight bracket (Bolts rusted and sheared)
2. Re-wiring the interior and map lights on the switch
3. Sorting out why the rev counter stops while I use the windscreen washers
4. N/S/R door check strap
5. The making of new interior door panels
6. Sourcing an unripped drivers seat & rear arm rest
7. New carpet set
8. Replacing the parcel tray on the dashboard
9. Fit my 8 track stereo and some speakers
10. Found out someone has fitted SD1 wheels to the rear, so I will be on the lookout for 2 P6 steels
11. Once I have found the P6 wheels, I will then want a complete set of chrome wheel nuts
12. Fuel cap lock is siezed
13. Sourcing a decent steering wheel
14. Mending the fuel reserve cable
15. Then it will be door skin time

Thats about it from memory, so expect lots of questions to be asked :D

Cheers
Jim

You'll find that Colin Gould at Faringdon (01367 244646) does a nice line in new door cards. You can buy them bare to cover yourself or he can do it for you.

Re: My 3500 S - WITH PIC'S >>>

Hi Jim,

I could probably help out with a few of those interior bits - wrecking a 74 P6B at the moment.. down in Beds if that's any help

Chris

Hello again everyone. Firstly, I have been away for a bit as I haven't had chance to play with the Rover much. I have had to sort my daily runner out which means any spare dosh has to be put into that. Secondly, thanks for reading so far and leaving your comments :D

I have been having the odd fidle recently with the Rover... I sorted the positions out on the interior light switch, so map light is number one, and both map and interior are number two. I have also got the original radio working, all interior door handles fitted in their correct positions, windscreen wiper delay is sorted, and a few other odd's and sod's... basically things that were niggly and didn't need and money to sort out

Now for the best bit... I won a 2200TC on eBay this evening for it's interior and all the little bit's and pieces that mine is missing. To say i'm happy is an understatment, I can't wait to get cracking on it. Should be picking it up on Sunday hopfully, so work on mine will start next week. Expect regular updates from now on

Thank you all for reading
Jim :D
