This was a tip from a friend. I was pretty dubious at first, but blimey I was wrong!

Vegetable oil! Forget Gojo or Swarfega for your hands. Use vegetable oil on your hands then washing up liquid with water. Works a treat, no harsh chemicals leaves your skin soft too. Best bit is its cheap from the supermarket. Get your own bottle or risk getting told off!

Hi, When I worked at the bus company I noticed that when I'd packed wheel bearings with grease that my hands were always clean afterwards, so it's the same principle.

Yep, just less carcinogens in veggie oil compared to petroleum products. Also found out today if works for high temp epoxy resin.

I use the stuff Ford main dealers use in own workshops .it has no name just a large blue tub with a number ( now worn away) it is semi dry .you need warm water but s sort of soft and grainy stuff bit like sawdust in butter. though white.ray in colour. it leaves hands clean .works on ingrained grease etc and does not dry out skin. no need afterwork cream . however I now always use where possible gloves .though I hate wearing them ..they fail easily when this thin plastic ones but have found its better to suffer a bit of aggro with gloves than suffer any skin conditions later. bear in mind dermatitis is not easy to cure and can in some forms remain for years if not life. not tried the olive oil trick ..yet.. otherwise done all the rest over years .sugar and washing up liquid.. washing powder etc . all do harm to base skin layers.

probably better for you than my normal goto hand cleaner, JIF ;) works a treat but your finger prints tend to disappear.

Yep, I've used Comet (same as jif) before and you do tend to lose fingerprints, it was bad enough that my fingerprint scanner on my laptop stopped working for a while!

did you know that in Peru the native people all pee into a urn and use it for washing their hair, and that it is sterile. Not sure about getting grease of ones hands though?
perhaps the C.S.I.R.O could do some tests?

Well that explains a lot, I always wondered why it was called PP obviously Peruvian Pee :)

Do you think this might catch on for Hair Saloons here in the west?

Pee isn't quite sterile. it still has small amounts of bacteria in it. For hard metal grease I use auto trans fluid and for getting the nails clean I wash my hair, the shampoo cleans them out! i suspect vegie oil and trans fluid are probably related. lately I've been using anti bacterial liquid soap..

For light grease and general dirt, dish soap and a scotchbrite pad is good.
For heavy brake dust or carbon type dirt, we use an abrasive handwash and the scotchbrite pad.
