Hello Rover friends,
It is not possible for me to reach Mark Gray by email (No answer) or phone has someone an idea !
Thanks.

No, but I had an order with him, spoke on his mobile phone from here in California , order for a few hundred pounds, said he'd send a paypal invoice, 4 emails, no reply no invoice so I went elsewhere , shame he was great on the phone , hopefully he's OK .

I had some rear calipers done just after Christmas he said he had loads to do.
Got mine back and they are as good as new.

I've had problems with this lot too. Incommunicado by phone then after two weeks get an email to say awaiting parts from supplier. Could have communicated that at the time of ordering.

If you're after the best parts supplier, talk to Geoff at Wins International. Always friendly and helpful, and replies to emails and phone calls very quickly.

Similar experience, emailed them months ago and am still waiting (NOT).
Also have had brilliant service from Geoff at Wins and recently from Rimmer Bros when I bought a replacement Chopper for my Lumenition

I've never had any problem with MGBD and always found Mark to be very helpful and informative. As a one man enterprise, he's bound to be away now and again, but usually tries to let people know.

I have never had a problem with Mark. He certainly knows his stuff, and always gets the order to me quickly.

Wins is very good too, but don't get me started on that other one - he's a *Censored*

Personally, I've never had a problem with any P6 parts supplier, including the latter who I've always found to be quick, too. (I'm not related btw)

I've used Mark Gray and Wins and found them to be both very helpful and quick.

I wouldn't use the other one again as they sent me some incomplete, sub standard parts and never got back to my emails.

In my 35+ years of being involved in all the Rover clubs, complaints about suppliers have always arisen from time to time, even back to the days of Ray Weekly, S&G Walker and Roverline (remember him?)

Sadly I think it has more to do with the realities of life rather than 'poor' service though I accept the latter can happen. Customer service cost money, lots of it, which is fine if you're John Lewis but not so good if your home resembles a warehouse and your parts business takes over your life. We all want cheap parts at zero postage and packing and we want them there the next morning at 9.00am.......it's the Amazon effect and it permeates into all aspects of life. Customer expectations have never been higher and prices never lower.......................as our American cousins say "do the math" !

I think all suppliers do a sterling job against difficult parameters, I have spent the winter doing a head rebuild on my P4 90 I've had faulty parts in GENUINE Land Rover bags, back ordered parts and parcels delivered to another address 2 miles down the road cos couriers are also asking drivers to do to much, is what happens to quality when price is the overriding factor..............it suffers. I can get the hump or accept it, either way I am powerless to change it.

I have no axe to grind with any of the Rover suppliers, I've had both good service and problems with them all, but would point out the following. Geoff ta Winns has made no secret of the fact he has been trying to sell his business and has also made it clear to me in person he will not be investing in the manufacture of any new parts but only supply those that are relatively easy to obtain through wholesale motor factors and are fast moving.

So once his stock of NOS and rare bits have gone, that's it, you'll only have Mark or Wadhams to go too.

Of course all suppliers have an obligation to their customers to give good customer service and I'm sure some, if not all, of the issues listed here are valid complaints I would only say "careful what you wish for" without them we'd all be a lot worse off and whilst open forums such as this are great for blowing of steam, they do little to cement bonds between owners and suppliers, many of whom are also owners.

I am in absolute accord with partviking's sentiments. Shame that Geoff from WINS wants to call it a day. I've never had anything but positive experiences trading with WINS. Now and then I've had less than satisfactory dealings with another long established member of the ever dwindling pool of parts suppliers. I won't express any stronger opinion than that on here! The fewer sources we have to get the bits'n'bobs we need, the worse off we'll all be.

Hi all, can I please ask you to consider the forum rules with regards supplier issues. Given the number of comments here, I've informed Mark and asked how he'd like to respond. Normally i'd prefer it if you asked me first as I'll attempt to mediate with any issues you have.

Thanks,

Rich

Rich,

I have voiced my opinion to you in the past that we should be allowed to share our negative experiences with other forum members - this thread proves that as a group we are able to make our points in a cogent and respectful way without descending into the comments section on a YouTube video. People here have shared their experiences, there hasn't been any ranting or name calling, merely a statement of the facts experienced by those individual members.

While it matters to all of us, for those of us in the States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and other far flung places we need to know what we can expect when dealing with the suppliers in the UK - shipping is crippling for us - I can buy a small part for $5 and then pay another $10 - $15 to have it shipped. With these kinds of costs we need to know that we are getting the best service - in some cases returning an item just isn't financially viable - so knowing the experiences that others have had is invaluable.

I understand that we don't want things to degenerate into bitter and angry, name calling but I can't help but feel frustrated that I can't get a balanced opinion here. I remember a thread about stainless steel bumpers on here - all positive reviews - you made a comment along the lines of "there's another positive review!" (not attacking you here mate ;)) but the reality is that a negative review wouldn't have been allowed...

If anything, this particular thread has been one of support, and constructive criticism - I too have experienced the same issues that people have mentioned. And, I would also agree that Mark is a great guy when you get to talk to him - the problem is he disappears and becomes unreachable.

We, the buyers, need to know who we can rely on - and in this case, the suppliers can get some straightforward feedback from their customers.

I am sad to hear that Geoff is working towards shutting up shop.

I understand that. I guess that's up to you guys to decide what should be allowed as a whole. I've just carried the forum on in Rick's format and with his rules. Feel free to all let me know what you think...
