Mates just bought it!!

Hi all.
Can anyone shed any light on this p6v8 that a mate has just bought?
its owner apparently was a mechanic at the garage who sold it,unfortunately he died so they sold it for his widow!! MMM???
He haggled it for £800.
I recognise it from a thread somewhere being it is a 2 tone car!!
The vynil roof is shot, and he has asked if I know of anyone selling a leather interior,so I presume that is past it as well!!
Only had a couple of minor advises for the MOT,but garages can be crafty,so I will need to get a good look at it for him!!

Cheers Dave

That's the one that was on ebay a few weeks ago someone on here commented on the dodgy colour scheme

Hi Kev

I have no idea what made him buy it without contacting me for a look see first!!
He must have been blinded by love at first sight!
I dont know what he intends to do with it,he also runs a TR7 V8 convertible!
Maybe he just has to get it out of his system, and will sell it on next year!
I do think he has paid too much for it though!!
As it needs new tyres, exhaust, paint, seats, roof vynil, carpets, etc!!!

I just hope that your mate hasn't bought a dog, :|

I was reading the original thread and i hope that the "Heavily undersealed underside" isn't bad news,
I spent on hour or so on my new V8 and managed to poke a few more holes in it,....DOH!!!

I am going to go and have a damned good look over it for him this saturday!!
Fortunately,he has only agreed a price, but not as yet bought it,so he can still walk away if he wants to!
As he has just had a knee op,he trusted the sellers words and the fact it has a new mot,as he cannot grovel under it to take a proper look!!
You never know! despite its looks,it could be a good'un underneath!!

WELL!!!
The verdict!!
Ive been to look at it and can only advise potential buyers,as I did my mate! to steer well clear of it.
WHY???
As the seller says in the Ebay advert the underseal is heavy!!
There are quite a few places that, with a little more pushing, would no doubt reveal the extent of the rust underneath!
He stressed he would not be happy if I were to poke too hard!!MMMMMMMMMM
And there are now 1 or 2 more holes where my fingers went through.
It starts well and does sound good with excellent oil pressure.
But on the test drive it revealed that the autobox is about to give up!and we lost all gears at one point when the kickdown didnt work so I dropped it into 2 and booted it!
Revved well but didnt go anywhere!! only by turning off the motor and letting the pressure drop, then restarting it,did we get gears. Also when reversing it back the clutches are slipping, knocking.
I cannot see how the current MOT was aquired legit,as if my car was in that condition my mot man would fail it at the slightest hole anywhere near a jacking or mounting point. There were also lots of places where it was obvious a welded plate had hurriedly been whacked on! probably tacked on rather than seem welded.
So there you go!!
Buy it at you peril or if you are brave and can weld and have a good spare gearbox!
But in my opinion, I cant see it being worth much more than £300.

If the selling garage did the MOT , can he threaten them with appealing that it should not have passed ?

Maybe they'll take it back or give him some money back

Hi Dave

They did not MOT it,but I am sure a mate of his did. When we told him about the gearbox problem,he didnt even wince ??? as if he knew it was faulty, but hoped it would hold up enough to get rid of it to some poor sod!!

Just be thankfull he didn't actually buy it, especially at anything like the screen price !
So many people get burnt with this type of car... and it gives the cars a bad name.
