Lt77 oil pump check

Can't really take the credit for this as read it on here somewhere but took me ages to find so made a short video.

This is something I wish I had known before I installed my 'reconditioned' LT77!!!
My 5 speed box worked for about 5000 miles, before coming to a crunching halt. Quite literally!
Inspection revealed that the internal oil pump hadn't been fitted correctly. As a consequence of which the box had been running virtually bone dry the whole time, surviving on 'splash oiling' alone. Here's a pic of what that oil pump looks like, and some snaps showing what my mechanic removed from mine when we investigated the fault!
Don't fit one of these boxes without doing this simple check before installation!

I fitted a new pump to mine when I rebuilt it back in 2011, and found that the inlet to it had not been drilled, it was just a blind hole, so I had to drill it out prior to fitting it. I assumed it was because the pump was used for different applications and had the inlet elsewhere for other fitments.

Based on other pics I have seen the inner gear above is upside down - the square drive hole is in the other side. I guess you refer to the blind hole below the part no? There should be a small pipe pushed into that hole that does a right angle and goes forward (flattened) through the intermediate plate into the main case to pick up oil.

My spare box has fibre gears in it that look undamaged.
