I need a retaining cap for an LT77 gear stick. Part Number UKC3159.
Apparently no longer available from the usual suppliers.
Can anybody here help?

Have you tried Clive Wheatley? He is in MG V8 conversions and has this part in his web shop

Peter

Thanks for the suggestion Peter. Mr Wheatley doesn't stock that part any longer, but he did know someone who has recently had a small run of them remade.
Colin Gould at Kingsdown Classics in Farringdon is the fellow.

FWIW I've seen one made from a similar gear lever part from a tractor if you can't get a new one. (I think it was on a website about MG conversions)

If you have one that is serviceable, you might extend its life with a couple of mods. First add a couple of braces to the bolt hole area:-

This still leaves the rear area loaded, so I did this with mine:

Its an angle bracket in mild steel I had lying around, with one angle cut back to about 3/8 or /10mm. I find silver solder much easy to work with - one you have the right flux, and can get enough heat there (gas torch) the silver just takes wherever the flux is, and holds. Did the soldering with the lever removed.
It was pointed out that this makes the lip at the top unusable for the rubber seal as suggested in the conversion notes, so I cut enough out of the silver to expose the lip again. There is plenty of silver under the angle

I am also fixing the brace to the top of the remote with bolts rather than c/s screws so that the brace could be removed (hopefully) without dropping the box, as the bolt heads should be accessible from the side, where screws would not be accessible. Hopefully none of this will conflict with the tunnel in the P6!
