Looking for a photo of P6 (preferably S1) with a hilborn style scoop.

Hi Groovers,
Strange request I know, right?! Well I'm googling images and not finding any! I've swapped the original SUs on my series one for a Holley down-draught (draft?). Now to explore my heathenism further I'm thinking of adding a Hiborn style scoop. Why? Well, just wanted one since I was a boy and tunnel rams were tough. Heck, I'd love to put a tunnel ram on, but they're rare as rocking horse leavings for the old Rove. Before my drunken mates and I go get the angle grinder I'd like to see some images of how she'd look. I suspect the slope of the bonnet may be more than I'm picturing and I don't want that to cause the whole thing look naff. Can anyone help? I'd like pics of a real car - I don't think Photoshop will be accurate on how it will all sit.....
Cheers,
Rob.

ps admin sorry if this is the wrong section.....

I have a Cobra replica running a Rover 3.9 with a Holley and Offy. The bonnet has a hood scoop.
I went to a lot of trouble to make an alloy turkey pan and fitted the top with a compressible seal to make the bonnet scoop sealed to the pan.
In effect doing what you are proposing with the Hilborn.
Unfortunately the Holley did not like being fed RAM air and the car ran terribly. Not what you want to hear I know, but better to be told before you cut a hole in a good bonnet.

With the turkey pan gone I still have to blank of the scoop with foam in a rainstorm, as the scoop is so effective the ingress of water overwhelms the carb.
Rain may not be a problem where you are though.

Oh you're crushing my dreams lol. Seriously though I know you're right....doesn't mean I wont do it though lol. Rain wouldn't be too much of a problem as it's only a club car but having a much smaller capacity than my mates cars it needs to run as well as possible to keep up. What's the best way to get cold air to the engine, in your experience? Also, I'm guessing that you would say larger filters are better than small for the same reason?

I fooled around with a pair of 2" HS8 SU's for a year or so on the Rover, retaining the stock air filter can with the snout cut off and a 3" hole I ran a 3" flexible duct to the front valance, this worked pretty good.IMG_0676.JPG
But you have a Holley now.
I have an Autolite 4100 now and run a 2" high K & N filter in a stock filter housing. It is about as high as It can go to clear.
The bonnet scoop I have only has a 4" hole under it, I learned my lesson with the rain issue. It provides enough cold air. I am not worried about chasing one or two hp lost by not ducting.

Ok so what you're saying is not to put the filter above the bonnet but just supply it with cold air above is the best solution? Something like a hornet style scoop?

Hey, do whatever floats your boat. If you go with a Hilborn and force air in then be prepared for a bunch of time re jetting and trying to iron out bogs and flat spots. The cold air feed cannot do any harm, but how much actual extra bang for buck you are going to get is questionable.
A cold air supply is not a magic performance pill, but lots of little tweek's all add up.

I agree. It's 98% for looks and 2% cold air advantage for me...but that being said I don't want it to turn into a PIA, (the car does enough of that by itself :p) so I really appreciate your advice. The car is mostly for highway cruising -- do you think 100kph/60mph is fast enough for the limited ram air effect to upset the carb? I noticed some kits have a foam insert to go behind the grille of the scoop - I wonder if that's an effort to limit the ram effect so the carby behaves? I've been googling hilborn scoops, cold air induction and it's effect on carbs and getting precious little back...

All set ups are different, my recollection is that when the turkey pan was linked to the scoop even running through the gears coming on and off the gas produced bogging.
You see the likes of T buckets and rods wearing Hilborn scoops, but these are mostly for cruising to the pub, I wanted to go fast, that didn't work !

If you want to keep up with your mates, secretly buy a 4.6, tune it up and throw that in over winter
