I have a friend of mine who has set me a question. He doesn't think i can tell him what car this is and he's right. I have no idea but i'm sure with your help i can amaze him with "my knowledge" or cunning. All he has said is that it is not a kit car but did it did not go into production. It does however have, mine and his favourite engine in. A good old Rover V8.
You can find he picture at; Car Picture

I can't let him beat me please help me guys.

I have no idea what it is, but it is extremely ugly ! :D No wonder it never went into production.
The only description I could offer is "The pink panthers Hearse" !

I think I might remember this car. When you look past the initial shock at the detail of the bodywork it is actually quite nicely made and finished - much too good for a kit car. eg look at the way the screen frames are seated into the shell - and it takes some old fashioned panel beating skills to get all those louvres into big panels, so It's likey to be aluminium. My memory, after some lubrication, came up with Trident as the manufacturer. They made the Trident Clipper in Suffolk, a rather nice alumium body on Healey 3000 chassis with either US Ford V8, Essex V6 or Triumph 6 power. Look it up on Google! That car was a beauty, the design was Italian (Fissore?) for TVR, but it somehow escaped to lead a life of its own. I seem to recall this as an attempt by Tridant to do their own thing without the help of the Italians - but I'm really not certain. No prizes for guessing why they didn't take it any further!

Anybody able to confirm or deny?

Chris

Actually, I rather liked it… I think it counterpoints the surrealism of the underlying metaphor…

Hi Guys,
Just had an email from the guy who set me the challenge. It would appear that we might be able to provide a service to the rightful owner.
His email is the text below.
Alan
Love some of the comments.

More info to follow.

It's the only example and i've just found out that it was stolen from a garage in Oxfordshire earlier this year.

please ask people to keep an eye out For it or bits that might be from it.

Cheers.

Dave H

I think the remit here is that if anyone has seen it, or sees it, then the appropriate authorities should be notified.
If you've seen it you would certainly not be something you'd forget.

Cheers

Alan

:D :D :D :D :D (falls off the chair in hysterics), it certainly has some strange features, Dutton(ish) at the front,5 stud alloys (wolfrace??),sidelight/indicators from a morris marina, the rear bumper looks as though it once graced a citreon gs, ( is that a p6 number plate lamp ??), my opinion, i think it's a kit car that was designed in a boatyard

If anybody is interested here are the details i have managed to get from the owner via a friend via a friend via a friend.

Basically Mr Skilton and Mr Perkins ended up with one each, believed the only 2.

The other one is rumoured to still be in existence and this was used as regular transport for a number of years before being laid up.

This one came recently to my friends dad, a work colleague and friend of the late Mr Perkins..

It was undergoing restoration at a premises in Oxfordshire when it was lifted.

The strange body was a development of the one in the article, but was designed to be able to accommodate 2 sets of golf clubs, hence the hearse shaped back.

Unique piece of Rover powered engineering probably gone for good.

Hi,

I was interested in this post because I have an SP1 Highwayman, based on a Rover and built in the 70's by Perkins and Skilton.

If anyone has any information about the donor car that would be great!

Kind Regards

I had a gentle trawl of he net and merely came up with the fact that you'd been there before me Jon!

Your car is most definitely from the same stylists pen as the original feature of this thread. The pictures of that seem to have disappered though, I'll ask Richard if he can find them.

Chris

Thanks Chris,

I was in touch with Mr Perkins a few years ago and he was going to send me everything he had on the cars but I believe he sadly past away soon after. I am on the trail of Derek Skilton and am waiting to see what I get back.

Thanks for your help

Jon.
