Leads and Plugs

Fitted a set of Magnecors to mine and made a big difference. The engine is much smoother and responsive.

Do the magnecor leads fit within the existing plastic routing combs screwed to the rocker cover?

Yes they do but it's a tight squeeze getting them through. I have them fitted to my 4 cylinder.

£76.69 + VAT for a set of P6B Magnecors according to their website.

Classeparts are currently selling silicone leads for the P6 V8 that have the original Lucas lead look to them; these are a reasonable £23.25 + p&p.

My P6 is running suprisingly OK on an 18 year old set of original style Lucas leads!!!

Can anyone here give us their expert opinion as to whether or not the Magnecors at £90+ inc. VAT offer much over the leads that Stina has fitted or the Classeparts ones above?? or even my old Lucas leads.

I have the same leads as stina has fitted but dont have enough experience to know which is the better of the 2...

I think that's the wrong solution to a correctly identified problem. The correct solution is to run richer needles. This makes a huge difference to the car. (the enrichment screw on the carb only affests idle mixture, not high power or revs mixture, that's looked after solely by the needle).

Rich Rockdemon has solutions for the UK. NZ and Australia have slightly different fuel, so the needle requirement is also likely to be slightly different.

I have recently purchased the same set as stina has, although no particular expertise to tell the difference between these and the more expensive ones, my engine is definitely running smoother than it was on the original Ripault (Rover) set which were at least 20 years old,
it is sounding again like a V8 should, and I can spend the difference on some other more worthwhile goody - like petrol

Someone somewhere must have done an exhaustive test into what is the best HT lead , surely?
I'm in the club of people who won't pay extra for a brand name without proof
Probably why I'm wearing Tesco pants?

Well Stina and MJP6B have sold it to me. I have just ordered a nice red set of silicon leads from SimonBBC. He confirms they should be with me within a couple of days. I will see what difference they bring at the weekend.

What needles would you recommend in a standard 3.5 V8, Chris, supping on modern unleaded?

What is the better brand and compatable with Ignition Coil? Can you just bolt off the old lucas and replace with a bosch one with transformer????

Since you are in the part of the world where Magnecors come from, I wouldn't mess about, just buy Magnecors!

Well hats off to Stina and MJP6B.

I fitted the new SimonBBC leads at the weekend and took the old girl for spin. A marked improvement in smoothness and pick up of the engine than what was provided previously by the 18 year old Unipart leads. They look great in the red too. Great value - I am a happy bunny!

Glad you are pleased with improvement. Recommendation goes to credit stina really, as she knows what she is talking about and recommended them to me. Good value for money.
