Good photos - thanks for sharing. Am really enjoying my Rover, but in the back of my mind is a nagging thought that doing rear brakes or clutch on the floor with no ramp is going to be a challenge when it eventually comes around. Still, better than a modern car....at least I CAN fix things on the Rover if they go wrong....and parts are not silly prices.
I did all my repairs when I was working on them for a living, on the floor, using a jack, ramps and stands. And that's the way I would do anything now.
To be honest I don’t find the rear brakes that bad. Once you remove the drive shaft end and discs they aren’t awful to deal with. The rebuild is a little more involved than regular calipers, but once sorted they aren’t very reliable.
They don’t like sitting though! That’s when they have issues in my experience.
Thanks for the encouragement. Mine is a daily driver and I'm not hanging about so wear and tear is more likely than binding on the brakes...which are excellent for a car this age and just one of the reasons I went for a Rover.
And thanks Harvey for the inspiration. In my case, it is getting a little harder to do some of these under-the-car jobs; they just take a little bit longer than they used to. And I spend too much time thinking about it instead of just cracking on.
I have to remind myself: you don't stop doing something because you can't do it; you can't do it because you stopped doing it.
Earlier this week I took my little motorbike across the Forest for a ride to Sammy Miller's motorcycle museum - great place to stop for a coffee and bacon roll even if you don't want to go in the museum. Sammy's 92, still rides, and still works there six days a week. The man's a legend. That's what I want to be like when I grow up!
Ahh oke, thanks, now I need to find the anti rattle spring of the other side, I can not find anymore, it is somewhere but can
not find it, I then need to mail a friend asking to put one in a envelope and send it.
