Is there a boot lock that offers a little more protection?

Not that I'm a dab hand with a lock pick myself, but looking at the key which opens my boot I'm thinking it really couldn't be that difficult to tease open! Now and then I find myself having to leave fairly valuable items in the boot of the car whilst it is unattended and out of my sight. For the sake of peace of mind, I'm wondering if there is some kind of more secure lock than what the car came with which I might fit? Anybody on here know anything about the availability or otherwise?

It's not only the boot.
In modern terms there is no security whatsoever with cars of that era.
We'd better have this in mind.

Arthuy, perhaps you could send me a private message? I am intrigued by your comment.
Demetris, I am also concerned about all other aspects of vehicle security. I also think it is sorely lacking!

Another reason to flush the boot lock and install a remote release!
Starting work on mine soon, just bought an actuator actually ;)

Back in the day, when it was 'cool' to de-clutter your car, I took the boot button off and connected the standard mechanism up to a cable, which I routed to the side of the driver's seat. Worked well although I'm sure someone could have got in with a jimmy.

the standard boot button on my P6 locks like this
turning the key to the LEFT results in the boot locking, the push button now continues to push in but the boot itself will no longer pull up open
turning the key to the right results in the push button itself locking, it no longer pushes in and the boot itself will no longer pull up open

so far so good

when it comes t o unlocking I then have no idea whether to turn the key left or right or what, it is always several minutes of doing both either and quite a while later finally it opens amidst a number of rather unpleasant crude adjectives o_O what am I doing wrong?

Turning the key left disables the button, boot cannot be opened, turning key right enables button, push it in and pull up boot lid.

Just trying to figure out if your lock was fitted upside down................

If you open the boot lid and look at the mechanism you can figure out which key setting actuates the release and which does not.
When locked the button does not move the latch to release the lid.
