I have found a mirror in a 2000TC I'm breaking (never done one before) and wondered if it was the usual rear view mirror for these cars. It appears to have a map light behind & below the actual mirror.
If anyone knows how to post a picture to this site can they help me please then I can show you what I've found.
Phil.

Phil,
This sounds as though you have the mirror as fitted to P6 models from early 1966 and which replaced the early type of courtesy lights which were mounted at each end of the dashboard (the bulbs fell out if you slammed the doors!)
This type of mirror/lamp lasted until the end of 1967 (or start of 1968 model year, about september 1967)
See page 64 in James Taylor's excellent book on the Rover P6. Regards, John.

Thanks again John. Sounds like that book is a mine of information. Problem is I don't have one. Is it still in print & can it be ordered?
Phil.

The light you have behind your mirror is an optional extra and as has been mentioned quite rare. It was more usually seen on the NADA cars and those cars fitted with full length Webasto roofs.
If you put it on eBay it might fetch a nice price......

James Taylor's EXCELLENT book is unfortunately out of print. Copies do appear on eBay but then tend to fetch a good price when they appear. I have a standing order with Waterstones for copies when they appear - they keep finding the odd copy hidden away so you could try them.

Phil,
Yes, I noticed I was watching it. Well done, I think you were very lucky there.
I have just bought one via e-bay for £9 inc. p & p. I have been away for a week so I have to collect it from the PO.
I won't be in anywhere near as good a condition as yours judging from the photographs of both.
Regards, John.
