inhibitor switch

Hi there, I have removed my inhibitor switch and tightened the housing and refitted to transmission and adjusted to allow the switching of the reverse lights in reverse position.
The manual says that the inhibitor switching can be closed in park and neutral, but I cant seem to adjust the switch to allow the switch to close in the neutral position.
I never thought it could be started while in neutral anyway, but can someone confirm please
Thanks Karl

I am pretty sure when I purchased it, it would only start in park.
So I think the company who replaced the box got another thing wrong.

had to dismantle the inhibitor switch as I found only one set of contacts making and breaking,
refitted and tried to adjust for p and n starting but to no avail.
I didn't do as the manual says for adjustment, so id better give it ago.
while underneath the car I found a loose nut and bolt on the driveshaft coupling, due to the transmission companys
crap job.
The original bolt "lost" and a shortened one fitted so the lock nut not locking.

Starting in park and neutral is the standard arrangement for automatics. I think if you take the pan off you can see the cam that drives the pin. check to ensure both positions do actually push the drive pin. You could of course just use a dummy pin and get someone to move the lever back and forth noting the difference between park and neutrals travel

thanks yes I plan to give it another go tonight shortly.
There must be two of the same positions of the cam to operate the switch (P and N) and one for reverse, as there are only two positions of the switch ,that the switch makes contact.
anyways ill give it another go
I didn't want to remove the pan if possible, as ive just refitted it and refilled with oil.

well I tried but failed and I did it as per the manual.
I have switching for park starting, switching for reverse, but no switching for neutral.
Any ideas why?

As starting for PARK and NEUTRAL use the same set of contacts and you can start in one but not the other then it's and adjustment problem, not a problem inside the switch.

ok thanks guys.
its is strange that the 45 degree terminals are supposed to be for the reverse lights (according to the manual) but when I used
a meter to check continuity they tend to work in opposite ( reverse terminals being the inhibitor switch).
so maybe its an adjustment after all?
ill give it another try tonight.

grrrr so frustrating, I have spent three hours under the car and I got the inhibitor contacts to make in all positions
but no contacts in reverse at all, Even wound it in to the point I couldn't select park physically.
tomorrow ill try again but it will start in park only, but at least ill have reverse lights.
off to bed to sleep off the stress its caused me !

tonight I have had some success yay
so don't bother reading the (two) manuals, but proof will be in the pudding, on start up one day soon hopefully.
I have found the transmission company really did do a crap job, found the bolts that bolt the flange to the universal on the driveshaft are the wrong way round and all are loose as the nuts wont do up.
and Ive been driving it around????
Anyway onwards and upwards, got to replace the speedo cable then bolt up the box and the exhaust.
three weeks roughly before we move house and the old girl moves into a new garage.
