Indicators not working

Hi All I'm still having issues with the indicators, now can't get them to work at all. I tried to wire in a hazard unit which worked briefly but I think it burnt out the flasher unit as it go very hot, so replaced it for a like for like unit and now nothing fuse ok and pretty sure all earthed ok. There three terminals on the flasher unit one l#marked as P which I taking as the panel connection which is live one marked as L which I'm taking as Live and a single green and brown wire goes to and appears to be dead and one marked with an X which I taking as earth. However I don't seem to have a wire for that and if I earth it it makes no difference. There is power going to the indicator stalk but nothing coming out... I can short out the two terminals on the flasher unit and get the indicators to come on but not flash proving there is power to the lamps Any help would be gratefully received.

Looking at the wiring diagram for Sparky, (they are NOT all the same - what model and chassis number is your car?), it does appear that the power goes into the flasher, through the hazard switch, and then to the indicator stalk. So if you have power into the stalk (Light green with a brown tracer on my car) your are powered up through the flashy bits. What power do you have at the stalk - i.e. how many volts are there?
