In my defense...

This isn't a Rover, so this isn't going to be a rebuild thread, but I have always fancied a Vauxhall FD VX/490 or Ventora, with that coke bottle styling. I also, rather fancied Dean Winchester's Impala, but would never get one as they're so enormous.

So when this turned up on ebay, :hmm:

In my defense, I was left unsupervised with a debit card and an ebay account

Don't see the need to feel guilty- nice job

Nice.

I was left unattended with internet access and a debit card, I ended up with a Silver Shadow, an Estoura, a Mk2 Jag and a Morris Minor!

I'm glad I didn't pay the £6,995 it was on ebay for

Strangely, I bought it from a company in Bedale, but I actually live very close to Barnsley where this was in the advert.

Well done Richard, you won't regret it.

I'd spent 30 odd years with P6s & got my basic restoration 'skills' over that time. I'm very glad I got my Alfa though as it's something new to learn :)

Always admired that style of Vauxhall as a wee lad. My neighbour had the Viscount model. Very impressive plush interior. Compared to what was available in NZ at that time , a rather awesome vehicle.

Well that brings back a few memories for me.
Many moons ago I was in need of a tow car so I paid £90 for a 1966 Viscount at the local car auction ( no ebay then ).
I used it to tow a stock car on a trailer with no brakes ( I know, I know but I was younger then) and it used to go through front brake pads at an alarming rate. The pads were fairly small for a car that size and if I remember right they were the same as a few other cars including the Hillman Minx, i used to collect pads from cars whenever i was in the scrap yards and had a boot full of used pads and would change them at the side of the road if required ( those were the days )
One thing worth checking is the front wishbones as water would sit in them and they would rust out around the bottom ball joint.

All the best with what looks like a lovely car

Lovely clean looking example, a mate I used to hang out with had one, large car and a bit basic never did a lot for me and very very thirsty with the same engine as the smaller PB 3.3's but in the much larger body.
Now a VX 4/90 on the other hand would be the the mutts nuts, personally I like them in the FB shape but the later shaped FC's ones would have probably ironed out the bugs some of the FB Victor range came with at no extra cost .

Now you're going to have to transplant the V8 from the fire damaged P6 in there to go along with those wheels...

Have you been peeking?

I have contacted the DVLA to see if there's any way to do that and keep the VHI status - it's pending :)

Contacting the DVLA will open a can of worms. If you fit the RV8 and LT77 without modifying the shell you will still be within 8 points, so you will retain the free road tax, but you will lose the MOT exemption, so you will just have to MOT it every year.

Are you sure?

I though the 8 point system was to be able to keep the original registration number, but if you change the engine type (straight 6 to V8) you lose the VHI so have to get it MOT'd, and pay car tax.
