ignition diagram

Hi everyone need some help, I've recently had the head off my 1967 2000tc [non runner] and had it converted to unleaded, so far so good... before this the engine ran of sorts but at least turned over. Now there appears to be no life past the ignition switch I changed the switch for a new one still no good, everything seems the same inside the car, all that happens is ignition light goes out when I attempt to start it. I was hoping someone might have a 'simple' ignition diagram that might enlighten me???

Hi, sounds like a very flat battery which has enough power to supply a few low wattage
bulbs but not enough for any sort of load.Or a bad earth or power connection, same
reason.

Is this battery in the engine bay? If so then I agree - dead battery.

If it is in the boot there are a couple of other options, notably the connector under the drivers seat that's halfway down the supply cable, plus the earth links in the boot seem prone to be being less than ideal.

Hi thanks for the prompt reply, sorry should have said battery is fully charged and there is power to the ignition swith ignition light goes off when the switch is fully in the on position...

Just a thought, and practically echoing what was said here before, is/are the earth strap(s) intact/making good connection(s)?

Hi, sorry to be a harbinger of doom, but just because you have charged the battery doesn't mean
it's not fu....knackered!! When the ignition is on try switching the lights on what happens then?
If they go out when attempting to start then battery or connections. If they stay bright then I
would say a fault in the ignition switch. On the basis that the last thing you did is change the
ignition switch, are the wires on the right terminals or is it the right switch?

Hi,

I know this sounds like overkill but I like the 4 jumplead method...... Two to the battery from a known good car, then one from battery earth to solid metal in the boot, the other from the engine block to the body to ensure you have a good earth throughout the car....

Hi all thanks for the reply I also should have said the battery is a new one thats been on trickle charge so there appears plenty of life in I've put it back on charge but my guess it's a connection problem it was cranking over good and strong, Battery earth is new and clean and most of the other switches seem to work no fuses are blown. I was hoping that someone had a simple diagram so I could start tracing the wiring, does anyone know whether there is a direct connection to the starter motor ??
