Ignition coil type.

Hi folks. Can anyone tell me what type of ignition coil is fitted to a 1968 Rover 2000tc with points and condenser? A part number would be very helpful. Is it ballast or non ballast?
Regards
Tony.

Are you looking to buy a new coil? If you are, I would use a Bosch GT40 on a non ballast resistor set up, or a Bosch GT40R on a set up with a ballast resistor. Easy to find in Australia, they may be available in the UK, not available in USA.

I do not know for sure whether they had started to use ballast resistors on the 68 models. I think some did, and some did not! Harvey will be along shortly, he would know. I will have a look later on and see if I have some other part numbers on my spreadsheet. The battery is flat on my old laptop, so I will have to charge it for a while.

Make sure you coil wire has the correct end for the coil. A screw in type coil, needs a wire with a screw in connector. A push in coil, needs a push in type wire. So you may need to consider changing you coil wire as well.

The GT40 coils are both push in type coils.

Other part numbers I have for ignition coils are Bosch 000012, IC14SB (NAPA), both of these are without ballast resistor.
