Icelert

I've got a question for anybody with a functioning Mk2 Icelert, in the rectangular case:

When it's in operation (i.e. weather cold enough to be flashing or solidly on) can you alter the flashing or cause it to flash if it's solid by switching on the high beams or signalling a turn?

My does, but I can't recall if that's a new behaviour or I've just never noticed before. Or I've forgotten, an increasing likely possibility.

I have never been near an icelert, but as a temparature sensing device of the era, it has to be voltage sensitive. So yes, if your battery is not at its best, turning on another consumption, would drop the voltage and change the readings (flashing...) of the icelert. It should something similar with the flashing rate of the indicators that with the engine idling changes according to the electrical load.

Thanks for the comment, but no weak battery involved so I don't think that's what's going on. The car has an alternator upgrade and the voltage is quite steady and doesn't drop when I add loads. I'm inclined to think it is picking up voltage spikes from back EMF from the switches but I'd need to put a scope on it or at least my bench multimeter to capture any spikes. And the bench is a long way from the car.

My concern is, if it's not normal behaviour, the Icelert is developing some kind of fault.
