SWMBO and I are going to be in country on holiday for four weeks starting in mid-August, and I am hereby giving notice that if there's anyone who will be nearby, I would enjoy meeting up with anyone who would fancy a pint and natter with a friendly Yank. Our itinerary is as follows:

Arrive 19 Aug.- 2 nights with friends in Surrey (Banstead)
22-25 Aug.- London (Earl's Court nearest tube station)
26-27 Aug.- Edinburgh
28-31 Aug.- Glasgow (will be attending the Cowal Gathering 29-31 Aug.--I'll be in the kilt, so be warned!)
1 Sept.- Dunoon, Argyll and Bute
2-4 Sept.- Tobermory, Mull
5-7 Sept.- Cartmel, Cumbria
8 Sept.- Llandudno, Conwy
9 Sept.- Stratford-upon-Avon, Warks
10-11 Sept.- Penzance, Cornwall
12-15 Sept.- Alton, Hampshire (will be attending Goodwood Revival)
Depart 16 Sept.

Give me a holler if you would like to try to get together somewhere along the way.

Scott

That's a wide-ranging itinerary, you should have a great time. I keep meaning to visit the revival again. Only been the once back in the early days.

Hello Scott, Shame I've moved from North London would have been good to have a natter and meet and your nowhere near the East coast unless I'm hitting London in mid August I feel we will miss each other this time...

Well, it was quite an adventure...and it started before we left. Instead of flying out on 19 Aug., I had my wife in the ER at 4 a.m., with what turned out to be acute Pancreatitis due to a gallstone. She had her gallbladder out 2 days later, with 2 olive-sized gallstones in it. The gallstone that caused the blockage had passed. So I canceled some reservations, and we did a bit of rescheduling, and added a few days at the end. So we flew into Heathrow on the 30th, jumped on the tube, caught the Edinburgh Express at King's Cross, then caught the next train at Waverly for Glasgow--a 30-hour day. Those first days in Banstead and London, the 2 days in Edinburgh, and two of the 4 days in Glasgow went by the board. The rest of the trip went as scheduled, we added 2 days in Banstead and 2 days in London at the end. One of the London days was taken up by a day trip to Canterbury courtesy of a mate in Croydon. I had purchased flight insurance way back in March, I had never done so before, and am now a firm believer. Among our mail when we arrived home (on 21 Sept.) was a check for $2600 USD.
