How's it sitting?

We all know that after several decades, P6s can end up with a 'saggy' behind! Both 'Hazel' & 'OCC' had them.

When I restored OCC (still to finish...) I put replacement springs on the back which I believe were standard & I've just taken a picture to show how she now looks. For comparison, I have recently changed Hazel's rear end completely & put in some uprated / progressive new springs & she is now sitting quite high.

Personally, I'm happy with both options; OCC obviously is the more original look, although I remember a local V8 in the late 70s having a high rear end, which I always thought looked good.

The views may be useful for anyone considering what to do.

I had the same experience regarding the rear ride height, with the original sagged springs and a pair of new progressive ones.
What i also found out was that with the old springs the suspension was bottoming out too easily and the car was rolling too much on bends. With the new springs the comfort was actually improved because there was more suspension travel available and the roll was noticeably less. Hazel's new springs will settle somewhat, but not much.

the p6 has quite a high ride height. when low the saggy springs ruin it all in my experience.

After doing some decent mileage in Hazel since the spring change, I can quite agree, Demetris. Although I've got to be a little more careful coming out of damp junctions as the inner rear wheel will spin if you don't respect the torque....

Just the perennial warning on de-Dion elbows...

I have dismantled Hazel's original rear suspension to refurbish & put on my 'S', so that all three cars have rebuilt rear ends. I got Hazel's elbows blasted along with some spares I have. This is what the off side one looked like:

This could possibly be repaired, but look how pitted the metal is, & how thin it is compared to a good one on the right:

The usual warnings apply - check yours before they become a serious safety hazard. They are at least 40 years old now & have been subjected to years of salt & crud on most P6s.
