How much is it worth?

Due to various other commitments (mainly resto of my Mini) my P6 has been sat forlornly on the drive for 16 months since the gearbox started to play up; it had passed an MOT only a week or two before this happened. The box had been fitted with all new friction plates about 500 miles before, but the pump was not overhauled - hence the problem. I've got another pump to fix it, but not the time, so it's probably sensible to let it go.
Somebody has asked if I want to sell it. How much is it worth?
Practical Classics rate a condition 3 (needing full rebuild, may be driveable) at £500. Is that a realistic price for a 1976 3500 auto with shabby blue paint, rusty rear deck panel and rear wing?

Hi Mike,

Yes - I personally think that's about right, if the relatively recent MOT fairly represents the car's condition & it hasn't deteriorated much since.
If problems are mainly mechanical someone can take a punt at £500; if the base unit is shot however then it's almost scrap I'm afraid, although it may be worth more in parts!

Cheers,

Phil. (3 year welding marathon almost over) :)

Thanks for the replies and PMs but there's been a change of plan.
Despite the pleadings of my daughters, I had made up my mind to sell it for whatever I could get for it, just to give me a clean slate to get on with the myriad of other jobs I have to do. :(
My wife suggested that maybe I could get another in a year or two. Then I think it hit home with her that it's better the devil you know, and she persuaded me to keep it! :D

Wow! Well done! Better make sure it finishes up with a really nice interior and a picnic hamper in the boot after that!
