How many quarts on initial fill after service?

Gents,

My ‘71 P6 3500 has been sat unused for most of this past year and a half. In that time, it has leaked a considerable amount of ATF (which I expected knowing the converter drains down over long periods of disuse) so I’m wondering how much fluid would be good for the initial fill after I drop the pan, clean the filters and refit the pan? Obviously since a fair bit leaked out I can’t just measure what comes out and go back with that same amount as more will be needed, so would 4 quarts be a good starting point or is that too much? Thanks in advance!

I’m using Castrol Type F, by the way.

Book. 12 Pints when DRY. For a drain 6 pints, as the Torque Converter can't be fully drained.

Me. It will overflow if you put too much in, if memory serves correct. And you will have no, or poor drive, if there isn't enough in it. Start with 1 pint maybe. If you are dropping the Pan, try up to 6 Pints. And if you have drop left over, ATF is the best Rust prevention on the planet. Why it's in gearboxes.

Brian,

Noted, so about 3 qts then.

Remember US measures ( Pints /Quarts/Gallons) are only 80% of Imperial . Fell into that trap looking a UK figures when in US & had to get extra.
