How Long Have You Owned Your Rover?

I've not had my 2000 for long, by the standards of everyone else on here, but it'll be four years, as of August this year. :D

I bought mine in about '94/95 and trailered it home. Due to circumstances I had to load it backwards on the trailer and
that, together with a tyre blowout on the trailer made for an interesting journey home. I still have memories of the trailer
sideways in alternating rearview mirrors of the El Camino I was towing with as it fishtailed down a hill with me trying to
bring it all under control. The bodywork still has scratches from the bushes on the side of the road to this day.....

An HGV driver who was coming the other way stopped for a natter after I managed to stop and pull over to change underwear
and he told me he was expecting to pull my body from a wreck as he watched me coming down the hill towards him.

I still have it and it has driven probably 10000 km since then and has been stored since '96.

Hi, yeah been there done that. Austin 1100 on backwards, towed by Triumph 2.5 PI,
two lanes and hard shoulder used. Inexperience of youth, steep learning curve, will
never do that again. Another factor is doing over 40MPH so I never tow over that
speed at all, It all gets out of hand very quickly,

The best part of it is, I had a mate with me who was an ex P6 owner that came along to advise if I was getting in over my head.
He is an old caravanner and we both totally missed the weight on the front rule, and his advise of "Floor it, it will stabilise itself"
had us over 102kph in short order with a gentle downhill and 4.1l of El Camino supplied motivation, so the eventual and fortunate
stop was certainly a trouser browning affair....

Hi, similar situation. I had read some time before about accelerating out of it and was trying it.
Meanwhile my mate was saying 'when it's all in line stand on the brakes' trouble is it isn't inline
for very long. In the end I remembered some thing my father said to me if you're in a skid ' all
feet off and stop steering ' so I tried that, it sort of worked because the speed scrubbed off and
I managed to glide gracefully onto the hard shoulder to gather my self together again and perform
a post mortem with my mate. We checked and rejigged the load and nonchalantly carried on.

Pretty much what I worked out by way of something to do.... It isn't in line for long at
all, though, and took a good few swings of the 'tail wagging the dog" before it even looked
like it may slow down, let alone stop.

I have driven 18 ton armoured personnel carriers at 100kph plus in the bush and even going all
6 wheels off the ground at times, the experience of being a passenger in that mess was truly
frightening. Even falling off my motorcycle felt "better" than that.

Incredibly I've now had my 1964 2000 for nearly nine years.

Had her predecessor for eight. Longest time I've ever owned a car. Done circa 11000 miles in that time.

This little chap is now a deep voiced 6' 3" 16 year old.

I am just about to acquire another early 2000 which is currently still in the ownership of the original owner (49 years!) more on that to follow.

Just over 7,5 years (time flies etc...) and just over 96K miles...

Even as a rolling project it didn't hang around too much. :D
