Im about to lose the will to live
I have just brought a 2200 which was running rough and when hot ran at 3000RPM
I replaced the jets needles and float valves the car would run for a while and just as I start to balance the car would not start again now sometime the fuel filters would be empty so the pump was checked and found 10mm of crud in the bowl so carbs taken off again cleaned and replaced,
Engine would now start then flood floats were replaced again carbs cleaned out
Engine still floods and fuel leaks out vacuum pipe on front carb but no leaking from float vents
It was surgested the pump is at fault
Any thoughts
Thanks

I had this problem on hot days with modern fuel. Had to beef up the heat shield and the problem stopped.

I would say on the surging don’t just suspect the carbs, I had weak bob weight springs in the distributor advance mechanism. The advance would go up but not down causing high idle.

On the dirt in the fuel system: make sure you have an in line fuel filter fitted. I have mine between the pump and the carbs so it’s easy to see if there’s an issue.

As others have said, check the spindle seals. Also check for play in the spindle bushings, if those are work you’ll never get a good tune on the carbs.
