New member and a first post..Hello to everybody!

1973..and a 20-year old with a brand-new full licence in his mitt..and hankering after a P6 3500S. Alas..far, far and away outside his reach!

Fast-forward 35 years..not taken too long to get one, has it!!!

Thanks testrider and yes..looking forward to Living The Dream! (once OCY gets a new clutch in tomorrow!)
:)

Pics will be uploaded later today/tomorrow.

Very nice. I do like the vinyl roof on the P6. Before i bought my current one i looked at a Monza Red one with black roof and boot mounted spare. Just to be incredibally picky. Does it have the wrong stearing wheel for a 3500 S ?
I shall hang my anorak up and go back to work.

Thanks Dave..yes, does seem solid and sound.

Already had the "Nothing at the key..dicky battery earth" smiler. But hey!...Moggies excel at that too!!!

Corroded/stripped thread at the thermostat housing..but now sorted. So I've now got a 5/16"- UNC Helicoil kit available if anyone needs a borrow!

New clutch going in today (£50 for new Borg & Beck kit from Newark Jumble..result!)

And all part of..as testrider says..Living The Dream!

Stan,
a nice looking car and from my part of the world looking at the (very distinctive) Swansea registration.
I have a dig thro' my archive of photographs taken at local shows to see if I have any pictures of it!
Regards, John

Thanks Camel..and you're right,..it is indeed a 3500 steering wheel. Must say, I do fancy a woodrim Mota Lita though...hmmm!

And yes, the vinyl does go incredibly well on the P6..and was an absolute must in the 70's!

Thanks John. Yes, supplied by Lex Mead, Swansea according to the rear window sticker..and I do love the registration!

Any photos you have would be warmly welcomed, as well as any history you or your local members might know of. I've sent off a V888 to DVLA (Swansea again!) for keeper history which I hope will provide some leads.

Regards,

Stan

Hello Stan & welcome. It looks an extreemly nice one and will no doubt go better with a new clutch - as long as you have the right centre plate ! as I found out to my cost a few years ago, new Borg & Beck boxed part no for 3500S but the centre plate splines were completely different so had to wait until monday to exchange & complete job.

Steering wheel coincidence, mine has the ordinary 3500 item as well - has had from new - was the 3500S wheel an optional extra I wonder ? Someone on this great site will know.........my car was bought new by my Father in Law but I`m afraid he is no longer around to ask.

Hope we get some Summer soon !....... ???

Hi Mike,

Yes..I'm pleased I finally took the plunge..and more than pleased with OCY. And no doubt I'll come with a more suitable and endearing name as she/he (not sure yet!) grows on me!

Regarding the wheel..I have it on authority from Harvey that the 3500S wheels were only fitted to PAS cars. Is your 3500S manual steer?

Did have my eye on a lovely riveted wood Moto Lita on ebay the other night..it went for a bit over my budget though!

The clutch went in fine by the way..good to overtake with confidence again!

Cheers,

Stan

Oh dear, you don't want to be listening to him! :)

AFAIK the thin rim wheel was only standad with PAS, whether you could specify it as an option I'm not sure, no reason why not I suppose, and dealers used to swap parts between new cars before they were sold, so even if you bought a new non PAS car with that wheel it didn't necessarily come from the factory with it.

It's no good just having the steering wheel, you need the PAS to go with it! :p

:;):

No worries Harvey...I did fancy that Moto Lita tho'...

..and if I'd got it..

..it would have shoved me quicker towards PAS!

Cheers and smiles!

Those Moto Litas have been going for a lot of money on ebay just recently especially the ones with a P6 boss included!

Hi Stan,
I think we were both watching the same Moto Lita steering wheel on e.Bay ! I bottled out way before its final bid....
Oh so it seems if you were well in with the selling dealership and asked for a fancy wheel they would nick one out of a showroom car and put it on yours at PDI stage ! That sounds like the BL I knew and loved (I was a mechanic in one many moons ago but on the Land Rover side of the workshop ! )
P.A.S. I know owners who have it would not be without it, some have fitted it on a car that left Rover without it, but really honestly I find no problem with the standard non assisted steering, my old girl never having had it, does not miss it !!!

So glad you are able to overtake with confidence again, I have just put the engine back in my "S" after a winter coolant circulation problem so am looking forward to getting back on the road. Just entered the Norwich Union Classic in October so there is nothing like a bit of pressure to get one moving !!!

Mike

Does anyone know why the thin rim leather steering wheel is so thin ?

I agree it's OK without PAS when moving , but parking ....
I think it would be better with a nice thick rim

How about this then!

Mike.

That looks very very nice Mike. What diameter is the rim ?, looks smaller than standard in photo maybe you have PAS ?

I must agree parking in tight spots without PAS is a bit of a work-out. I expect the more ancient I get PAS will become higher on my wants-list for the old girl... :)
