Good Afternoon. New owner here based in Worcestershire. Just picked up a 1965 2000 which although will need some welding is completely original.
May well be on here for advice and information as well as sharing the odd photo as we go.
cheers.

Over-riders on the bumper & aluminium side trims; neither of which look too out of place.

Owners would of course often update their cars to make them look a bit more current, so they could actually have been authentic from the early 70s!

Hi From Coventry,
Looks like its been garaged and looked after??

Interesting about the side trims. Not as original as I was told then!!
Needs a lot of work. Interior needs a lot of tidying and lots of other bits and pieces but looking forward to getting it sorted.
Sad I have to let my MGF go though!

It's good to see early P6s being kept going. From the outside the side trims weren't available as options until c1968 (standard from 70/71) and the original over-riders were a different style to those fitted. BUT, the car's 53 years old, there aren't many that were exactly as they left the factory and many were updated in the early 70s, which is still nearly 45-50 years ago.

It looks to be Zircon Blue, which was a current colour when it was registered and it has the correct early single 'circle' wheel trims.

You should find a small map light under each end of the dashboard, only found on the early cars up to early 1966

If you post some photos of the interior and under bonnet people (anoraks :)) on here can assist with other identifying featiures of the early cars.

Good luck.

Agreed, they were. I'd forgotten that. Having said that, I don't recall ever seeing a series 1 with the optionally-fitted side trims when they were current. I'm not saying that there weren't any but presumably there weren't many.

Good looking V8 you have there.

Dennis Chick's white 1966 TC has them from the factory. I'll find a picture somewhere.

Lots of interesting points. Will post up some more photos tomorrow.
Needs a bit of work. Door window seals etc but its serviceable!

Next joint meet of the P6 clubs is at the Fruitiers Arms, Uphampton, near Ombersley next Tuesday, 19th 1930 onwards!

couple more photos. as you can see, the interior needs a little bit of work!

Good luck with the restoration work, like you say the interior is more of a challenge with parts harder to find. You've got a fairly rare optional wooden gear stick knob there. Adjusting knob for steering wheel shouldn't be that colour, should be black. Also look like original seatbelts. All seems there to be honest, just looking tired (which it's entitled to at over 50 !)

I think the adjusting wheel is correct, early ones were that colour.

Appears to have the switches for the dash map lights, also has the licking fuel cap, the curved choke/reserve knobs and what looks like the later heater knob, so that would seem, to me, correct for the stated age of the car. I thought the 120mph speedo came in when the reflectors moved to the bootlid, but possibly depended on part stocks. The identifying features seem to support the late '65 car, IMHO.
