Hi Everyone - New Member Alert.....

Hi - I've recently joined the club and thought I'd introduce myself. I'm based in Northampton which seems to be one area of the country that doesn't have a local P6 group! (is there anyone else here from Northampton.....?) Perhaps we can remedy that?

I've 'discovered' the joys of car restoration only recently, unless you include my experience of maintaining various Land Rovers that I've owned in the past. I thought I'd dip my toe in the water by getting an XJ6 as a project car for my wife to drive. This needed extensive work on the air conditioning system, a few new bits here and there and one or two areas of bodywork requiring small amounts of attention. A sensible starter project you might think......

Shortly afterwards the Law of Attraction kicked in and I was introduced to a real gentleman by the name of Paul who was moving to the US later this year and had two classic restoration projects which were unlikely to go with him. Since he had done a lot of work tracking down spares for both of them I accepted his kind invitation to become their new owner. One of these is a 1969 Series 1 P6, the other a Chevrolet Caprice. The Caprice is remaining in storage until I get round to it, and the Rover is now sitting in the middle of our driveway awaiting transfer to the garage currently occupied by the P6 donor vehicle I obtained which is going to supply the engine and various other bits in due course. The donor vehicle was very badly rusted throughout, although I haven't made a final decision on whether it can be saved eventually, but I think the other vehicle is probably in better shape to begin with.

How has owning a P6 changed my life? Well I have two sheds and a large chunk of the cellar full of car spares and a habit of waking up in a cold sweat wondering whether I have bitten off more than I can chew. I'm sure you'll see a lot of questions on the technical forums once I get round to putting things back together, but in the meantime I've included a pre-restoration picture of the car in the former US Airforce bomb shelter where it has spent the last part of its fifteen years off the road. Cheers Rob

Hi Rob,

You're not alone in Northampton, or at least I now know that I'm not alone!! :D

Local groups seem to be South to Bedfordshire, or north to join the P4 group in Kettering, but nothing closer

I'll drop you a PM with my details.

Cheers,
Brian.
