Its been nearly a year since bought this P6 V8.I got this Rover very very cheap from an auction, i was the first and only bidder. It was the first Rover to be auctioned off that day as there was a few.Although it looked a bit rough around the edges and the floor was full off water it was in good original condition and came with complete with all its service history. My plan is too repair and service too get it back on the road.Just keep it original is my plan.
I also own a few Land Rovers.

G-day that’s quite an unusual looking colour from the photographs is it the original paintwork and if so do you know the name of the colour? Love the big vents under the radio I guess for air-conditioning? Don’t see that and certainly don’t need that very often here in the UK.

Its the original colour its called Turquoise and yes those vents are for air conditioning.

I like the colour, pretty sure I’ve not seen that here in the UK. Possibly an export colour. I’m sure someone far more knowledgeable than me on here will confirm. Good luck with your repairs and service. Plenty of clever folk on here always ready to offer advice if required.

Wont hold that against you! Saw car was originally from down here. All the help you need can be found here.

Hi Keith,
More greetings from Vic.
Nice looking project you have there.
The sceptical sounding “apparently done” comment in the paperwork with regards to the service and oil change brought a smile to my face. I sometimes have that feeling when my everyday car is serviced....

Agreed, I love the Regent Motor invoice: I can just hear a customer rhyming off a list of complains, with the foreman patiently writing all the customers complains down, while thinking to themself, "It's a bloody Rover, they all do that!!"
'Content whistling noise - fan belt area' reply "Appears OK now"
'Engine leaks oils' reply "Still leaks - watch"
'Choke light does not go out' reply "Appear OK now"
'Brakes squeal' reply "Improvement noted"

It's the same mentality I have when I look at my or my partners modern car.

The one I like the most is the fix to the door being hard to close ;):
'Door hard to close. Too much bend in the gear lever.' reply "Not touched'

That's great....

Welcome from me too, nice car and i can see that i has the aftermarket Alpinair A/C, like the one that i retrofitted to my Rover.
At least in your installation it doesn't seem to affect the closing of the gloveboxes.
If it is a NZ assembled car, then the colour is probably original, as the palette of these cars was shared with the contemporary Triumph range.

I bought my SD1s (company cars) from Regents in the day, and watched them for doing the correct stuff. Once bounced them for charging for a "transmission service kit" when the cars were both 5 speeds. In more recent times with dealer serviced cars I used to mark some things to check they were replaced on schedule - spark plugs are easy. I also deflated the spare a few times so I could check that they checked the pressures as the service list dictated - caught them out at least once, and made a fuss with manager about not being able to trust anything they said they did.
The chassis no should tell you if its an NZ CKD car.

When I had my workshop I had a car come in with all the parts paintmarked like that. So I replaced them all as I would normally, and put the paint marks back on to the new bits.....

Hi Keith,

Welcome to the forum and to the joy of Rover P6B ownership!

I can share some light on your Rover, it is my understanding that it was assembled in N.Z, turquoise is a Triumph colour. Rovers for the Australian market were painted on the same line as Triumphs and Jaguars, so on occasions after painting a row of Triumphs, along comes a Rover a two. Rather than changing the duco, out comes a Rover wearing Triumph clothes.

Rovers that were dealer fitted with air conditioning of that particular type always had the gear selector suitably bent to prevent loss of the full complement of gear selection. I am assuming the peg in the photo was used by the previous owner to keep the choke out, the eccentric having worn off.

Ron (also from NSW :)).

Nothing changes. With my last Jag, I always filled up the washer fluid before a service, as they'd charge you up to £10/litre, only to find that they still charged me, and also charged me for replacement wipers. They wouldn't back down.

So when the car went back in three months later for the next service (doing high miles), I recorded myself filling the fluid up. They charged me for more fluid and wipers, so showed the manager the video, and the receipt for the three month old wipers that had a scratch on that I'd purposely done, and then said that my next conversation would be through my solicitor.

They refunded the wipers and fluid costs, but were even bigger pricks from then on, until I walked away from JLR as a brand.

Many years ago I took my old Montego to a garage in Shaftesbury for an MOT and it failed on the power steering pipes which were leaking at the unions to the pump. They quoted me £85 for the repair which I declined and asked instead that they just wrote me an MOT, and I would say no more about it. I should really have told them why but I was in a flippant mood so just thought I would see how far they would go with it.

Eventually the manager was called and I insisted there was no leaking from the power steering system, not at the unions and nowhere else either. Full of bluff and bluster he said that his mechanics don't lie, and that I was accusing them of doing so, and it was starting to get a bit aggressive so I thought I had better come clean when the owner of the garage wanders in, and old friend of my Fathers.

He asked what was happening and his manager blurted it all out in a very angry fashion almost calling me names but just managing to refrain from doing so, and then I informed the owner that my car wasn't fitted wth power steering.
