Hello, TRYING TO FIGURE HOW TO TYPE TEXT OTHER THAN THE TITLE

You can type in the same gray square as you posted the photograph. On a PC that is. Move the mouse on top of it, wait for the vertical line to appear and type...

Your P6b looks great.
As soon as you get that keyboard sorted , I will be interested in hearing more about your car.

Still not sure of whats causing the issue, on my main computer I cant enter anything into the text entry area. I turned my other PC on and can access it here. Both are Windows 10 with Google Chrome browsers, not sure what the issue is.

I'm located in Bathurst, Australia. Can see the Mt Panorama racetrack from my back deck. And at the moment I can hear it too, the big 1000km race is this Sunday (Friday pm now), everyone is practicing and qualifying today. Tomorrow is support races and final qualifying for the top 10 positions on Sunday.

For GRTV8, the car is a '76 P6B, first sold in September '79. Not unusual here, a large dealer stockpiled the last of the P6Bs coming out of New Zealand. The records show its been in the hands of enthusiast owners since around 81, but there is a large gap in the records. With the aid of the existing owner records, an excel spreadsheet and chart I can deduce it has done either 312,000kms or 412,000kms. All depends on whether it was sitting gathering dust for a number of years or whether it was being used there is no information. My guess is 412,000. It's been well maintained for all the important bits, needs nothing major mechanical for now. No Rust anywhere!

It drives well, presents well as long as you don't get too close. It does everything its supposed to. I've had it for a month, just making sure its going to be safe and reliable, replacing lots of rubber components that have seen better days. It passed its roadworthy inspection for our historic registration scheme two days ago, passed it easily. Once I get the paperwork back from the club I'll register it. Our scheme limits use to club events and 60 days of personal use recorded in a logbook. It is enough for what I need, to put it on full reg for use anytime costs many, many more $$$$. Its only going to be a hobby car, though it will get driven, I'm surrounded by kilometres of country roads with pubs, cafes etc to visit ;).

The photo:
When i got it the right hand mat was absolutely shot, the front 2ft was pretty much missing. It will eventually get a full new set of carpets, but in the meantime I decided to make just a cheap pair of new mats and appropriate underlay to make the car usable/comfortable for now. I made the mats from a cheap rug I bought from a local discount decorators shop. I was gone once I seen the leopard skin pattern. I'm sure it will generate conversation anyway.

Alan,
Interesting a/c unit. It looks nice at home there. Ive seen some massive units on earlier cars. Def. not OE , but still essential for Oz climate.
I bought my 72 P6 through Faulds in Perth. They in turn ordered her from the UK as I added a/c on the extras list and NZ cars didnt do a/c.
It has a more integrated dash unit but I guess what goes on behind the dash would be similar to yours.
My P6 came back with me to NZ in 73. Still have it. Same almond colour as yours. I missed out on getting the leopard skin carpet.
I envy you living next to the Mt Panorama track. Ive always lusted after that race from the late 60's when grass root racing was in full swing. Chargers, SLR Torana's, GTHO's, Monaro's. All in the past now. Coporates moved in - Hard to tell the cars apart now ,except for their livery.

The story from what I gather is that Regent motors bought and stockpiled the last of the NZ production. Most of them got fitted with AC before sale.

The good thing here on race week is that there are bunch of interesting cars around town that get out and about a bit. Seen a few Chargers and an XW GT just cruising around town so far. Bathurst council tries to get a bit of a party atmosphere around town for the race period and puts a few things on.

Is the seat-fabric original? Have never seen this pattern. Maybe typical for NZ/AU?
Snakeskin!
No, it was retrimmed in 1997 (from the records). The original fabric never lasted well here.
As a motor trimmer(retired) I'm pretty sure I've seen it before. I think it might be from a Ford Laser. It's a diamond pattern velour.

Ford Laser? I searched the interwebs because again i've never heard of it: looks like a European type Mazda.
Strange how brands sell different types of cars in certain parts of the world. Almost like another brand... Weird.

Yep Mazda 323 and Ford Laser were essentially the same car. Very common/popular in 80s Australia.

Now Im going to have to dig down and find out more on these possible NZ a/c'd cars. Very interesting. I know that most of the P6 models were KND built for South pacific export.
You've made a nice job of those seats.

Regent Motors were in Melbourne. I didn't do the seats, they were like that when I bought it (retrimmed in 1997, I've only had the car a month). The only bits I've done that way are the carpet mats and recovering the steering wheel (16" PAS).
