Hello - just joined with an unusual project.

Let me firstly explain that I have been a Rover man all my life. Back in the 1960's my dad had a Rover garage - selling Jet petrol - and so I was brought up on P2's 3's and 4's. My first car after passing my test was a 1960 duo green 100. I literally used to take the P4 workshop manual to school and study it in the free periods.
Anyway, as life moves on I have had many other cars, and thats putting it mildly. But, ever since those school days I wanted to use a P4 chassis and build a twin engined car - a straight 12. I am going for a 1920's Land Speed Record style design. ( eg BABS )
Now, as old age approaches ( quickly ) I am going a stage further and am starting a V24, using 3 Rover V8 engines. The P4 chassis has had to go in favour of a LWB LDV. An auto box is being used for easy driving. I have never worked on the Rover V8 before, so may need some questions answered, but I have rebuilt, modified many Yank V8's. The Cleveland being my favourite.
If it all works out as planned, I will be shipping 2 cars to the USA next September to do Route 66, the Pacific Highway and others.
There is nothing to show yet, but here is a photo of the car I have just built on a 1936 Daimler chassis.

Many thanks everyone. Should have some basics to show you in about 2 weeks time. I have already bought the chassis and axles, 4 1/2 V8 engines, an auto box, headlights, steering wheel, column, box etc, and wheels. I think I will need to buy 2 flywheels and starters.

There are many ways to join engines together, but I think I prefer this method using rubber trans doughnuts.

If there is enough room, I might also include a Hone-o-drive...

Whatever, it should be fun. Here is the chassis, (red one ) the other is for a replica Bentley , now sold and going to Newcastle.

awesome! I have a similar pre-war speedster idea in my head using a stripped down La France firetruck.

Agreed, I have looked at those and other stuff on USA ebay, and there is some amazing stuff - and often they have wooded spoke wheels, which look very period.

I guess over the years, engines get swopped around. One was even in a Stag, another in a Scimiter, the one on the crane in a Range Rover !!

Well, made a start, fitted the axles and wheels, and lowered in the engines in just to get an idea of sizes and available space. Think its all going to work - no problems seen so far............

They seem to fit in there, (just!) but I hope you're planning a transmission change along the way, that box will have problems coping with one engine, let alone three.....

Well, doubt I'll be using enough power to worry the auto box. If its a problem, I may get it beefed up - but fingers crossed to start with.
