Hello - I'm a new P6 owner!

Hi - just thought I would introduce myself.
I have just, in the last month, bought myself a Rover P6 - a 1972 3500S in Monza Red.
Here are a few pictures of it and (later) there are a few questions I have for you!
So why did I buy it? Well I am a huge classic car enthusiast, although I would be the first to admit I have very little mechanical knowledge.
I am one of those guys that loves owning, polishing and - most importantly - driving classic cars.
It started about 15 years ago when I was working for a big company.
To everyone's amazement I decided to give up my company car and buy myself a classic to drive as my everyday car - and purchased a Ford Capri 280 Brooklands (a dream car from my youth).
I ran that for five fabulous years before selling it and buying another car I had always fancied - a Jaguar XJS.
I ran that for a further four years before swapping it for another car that I had lusted after as a teenager - a 1978 Datsun 260Z.
This I have owned and run for the past five years - driving it every week. It is in mint condition and recently was seen on BBC TV being driven by both James May and Damon Hill.
I will never part with the Datsun - because I love it and it is appreciating in value fast, but it is only a two-seater of course.
I fancied something that was more of a saloon that would seat four people (with luggage) so if we went away for a weekend with friends, or I did a golf trip with a couple of buddies, we could all fit in the same car.
The 70s is my period of interest, so it had to be something from that era that held memories for me of when I was a teenager.
When my Dad was a sales manager back in the 70s and was driving a Sunbeam Alpine (the fastback saloon), his boss used to come round in his Rover 3500 - and I absolutely loved the whole look and sound of it.
Anyway, that is why I decided that was what I wanted to buy.
I saw this Rover up for sale in Southern Ireland. I joined the P6 Rover Owners Club and one of their members who lives over there agreed to give it the once-over for me.
He gave me a decent report on it, so I flew across to Dublin, bought it, drove it to Dublin ferry port, crossed the Irish Sea with it to Holyhead in Anglesey, then drove it two-and-a-half hours home!
The following week we had a week's holiday planned in Cornwall. We had planned to go in the 260Z as usual, but I thought it would be a good idea to give the Rover a run and test it out.
It got us all the way there and back (over 1,000 miles in all) and never missed a beat!
But now I need the help of you guys.
FIRSTLY: I live in the Cheshire area, not too far from Manchester, and am looking for a good classic-friendly garage to do my repairs/servicing on the Rover.
What I need is an old-school mechanic who really knows the car and its engine - someone who is familiar with all its quirks who could fettle it, adjust the carbs, give it a good tune up etc. Can you recommend anyone in my area?
SECONDLY: The car is generally running well at present, though occasionally when turning a corner I feel the power steering 'stick ' for a moment. Could this just be that the fluid is low, or that the fluid needs changing - or may it need a new motor? If so, are these easy to obtain and how difficult are they for a mechanic to fit?
THIRDLY: Are there any other P6 owners who live anywhere near me. Would love to meet up!
Anyway, this forum looks very lively so look forward to your comments!

Hello Riddler and welcome .
I can see why you are excited with your purchase . It looks to be have kept in top condition .Red for an "S" is almost obligatory .
Enjoy the red thing and I look forward to hearing more from you
Gerald

looks great. Red really suits the p6, there's lots you can do to improve the ride or you can just enjoy the magic carpet ride that a p6 is.
Welcome.

Graeme

Thanks Mick - yours looks nice too! I looked at a few and kept ignoring this one because it was in Ireland so I knew it would be a chore to get to it. But glad I made the effort in the end.
Thanks for the replies to date - though surprised no one is able to recommend a good Rover-knowledgeable garage in the north west.

I had heard about that. Remind me where they meet and at what time?
