Hello, I acqiured my lovely white P6 2000 in March this year from a friend who had had it off the road for a year. After a some major welding, a wash and a polish it was back on the road once more. I was really proud to drive it. The smell, the sound , the pace. Well you know.. Always turning a head and creating a smile from the diserning passer by.
I have been meaning to join your club since then but now it is from less happy circumstances that I do.
:( Unfortunately 2 weeks ago the rear drivers side suspension collapsed. Rusted away from where the suspension arm joins the back axle {If that makes sense}
To be honest i need help and advice from you all so i can keep it on the road.
Thankyou reading and I look forward to being an active member of the club.

Hello Dom and welcome to the forum.

My Fathers first P6 was a '65 white 2000 with a red interior, I think my favourite of all the P6's we have owned.

Sorry to hear about your suspension problem. Sounds like the culprit is the de dion elbow - a standard P6 failure. It's really not difficult at all to change, you'll be pleased to hear. Only real decision is whether to try repairing the one you've got or buying another one. Try searching on here for "de dion elbow" first and if that doesn't tell you all you need to know then put a post up for help in suspension and steering.

All lot of people have scapped their cars after the suspension has gone like that but it is really a very easy thing to fix.

A second hand dedion elbow and 2 or 3 hours work will have you back on the road

Good luck

Thanks chaps. That is really heartening to hear. I shall try and find one and get the old boy back on the road.! I'll keep you posted on my progress.
Cheers again Dom

Thank you for your help. I have an elbow arriving tomorrow and am looking forward to some quality time with grit in me eye and rusty nuts.
Is it all right if i post some pictures of my progress. Not sure how to at the moment, for both, but the unexplored life as they say...
Cheers Dom

Hello all again,
I've done it! Changed me dedion elbow. Only took a day to remove the nuts!!! Saying that, my nuts would be well seized if they hadn't been touched for 40 years.. :wink: But once freed it only took about an hour to re-assemble {My gaitor is on the drivers side too much to my annoyance}
Thanks to all of you who offered advice and Ian at rover classics for having the part to help me get back on the road once more!
Cheers Dom
PS I have some pics but looking on other forums I think you may have seen them all before.

good to hear you have the car back in one piece

May be worth poking around the other side to make sure that hasn't started to rust through

Mmmm, funny that, much to my annoyance when I looked at mine today, it too was on the drivers side. It was however, still on the left because I never look at it from the rear of the car, I'm always underneath with all the interesting bits..................
Next time I get run over by a P6, I shall be sure to look and see that the gaitor is on the left when the diff crossmember hits me on the head as it passes...........................
