Hello from Sunny Manchester!!!! (sunny i wish)

Got the car ive always wanted just last week, p6 3500 auto.
Parents had a 2000tc when i was growing up so i guess its a midlife crisis. Bought it from Baileys classic cars on a whim from pictures on ebay and havent stop smiling since, its had plenty of previous and its rough round the edges but arent we all.

Wondering if anyone has any knowledge they can share or if they recognise the car reg no. HNO 154N. All comments would be welcome on that one.

The main reason i'm posting is the autobox seems to be slipping in second gathering plenty of revs but very slow progress on the speed front upto about forty until it changes into top and then it flies.

Have checked the fluid hot and cold and get a reading thats almost double the level on the stick and its not leaking any trans fluid!!!! I havent checked the downshift cable because it does the same when i put it into second and the autochange seems fine despite the slipping.

Any help will be most gratefully received.
Cheers Rich.

Second gear slip is probably front band, and as yours should be a 65 box you can adjust it using the adjuster on the N.S. of the casing. You'll need a small torque wrench and the setting is in the book.

If you pull away in "2" you may find it slips from a standstill moving off which would point to the same fault.

Get the fluid level correct first, then check the kickdown adjustment, then adjust the band. In that order.

Chances are the fluid level is high because "somebody" (I'll leave who to your imagination) knew there was a fault and tried to cure it by adding loads of fluid.

Welcome aboard BTW.

When you've had a look at it re-post in the gearbox section.

Rich,
Again, welcome aboard. I'm a newish P6 owner and I'm organising a run out on Sunday 20th April (Drive it day). We're meeting at Charnock Richard services (M6 Nth Bnd) at 10.00 with a drive up to Holker Hall. Have a look in the events, hope that you can make it.
