Going to start refurbishing my heater. What options have I got to upgrade the motor and fan.
Can you fit one from a metro or montego?
Thanks paul

I doubt it. The motor is quite different on the later cars. You may be able to make it fit, but it would involve a lot of fabrication.
The heater motor and squirrel cage is somewhat serviceable on the P6 once the heater is pulled from the car.

I pulled the motor, checked for play in the bushes, lubricated them, checked wiring and connections for corrosion. The squirrel cage can sometimes be bent I’ve noticed. Not sure how it happens, but if it’s off that’ll affect final speed and efficiency.

The biggest problem for low air flow I’ve found is the foam gaskets and seals have degraded to dust. This means any airflow escapes before it gets into the cabin. I’ve used EPDM closed cell foam strip sold in hardware stores to replace the original foam and that makes a huge difference.

I bought a Metro motor and cage as lets face it the system is a bit asthmatic, and yes I have sealed all the gaps under the dash. Anyhow the motor as stated is too big to fit the box, well the one I got was.

It was me that started the Metro motor/cage conversion. Yes, the heater box needed modification as the cage is bigger, but that's the point of it. The bigger cage will shift more air.

I guess we are all frustrated, the motoring summer has been a write off, winter is coming and so is another lockdown.

I look at visiting here similar to spending time in the pub with a few like minded mates. There is a bit of piss taking, some rubbish talked, some very interesting topics covered, usually I learn something.
I think the next few months are going to be a challenge and I look forward to seeing what other folks are up to with their cars, or whatever else turns up on here.
