I think I still have a couple of scrap heater units!
I will see if that part is any good over the weekend, and let you know.

I made one myself 8)

To be honest, it was very easy. Flatten the one you have go use as a template. Cut a new one out, bend it, drill a few holes.

and that would give you the opportunity of using Zinc or galv-allum steel sheeting to stop or reduce future rust problems

Dear Pilkie, When you are looking for your heaters for member transexl , this weekend. Would you be good enough to see if you have a L.H. SHORTER CONTROL ROD which is the one that controls the air flap to the passenger compartment, as you know. Its operating lever, of which I have several, is marked with arrows up/down. I cannot give you a part number obviously. However, it is the upper drawing on page 240 of the Haynes Owner's Workshop Manual. Looking into the passenger side glove box it is the left hand rod. A steel rod with a die cast white metal fork which appears to be splined to it, at ninety degrees to its end. Thank you in anticipation. Best regards, Alanj.

This bit?! Will look!
ps!
This is my excellent spare heater and not a breaker or for sale!

Hi guys

and

THANKS! :D

Making one is not the last resort, but I thought I´d check what options I got... .
I even got some people to talk to here in "Good Old Germany"

Hey Pilkie - what´s the point of posting a pic of your "excellent no breaker"-unit in this context?
You could have taken all you need from some drawing or whatever
Feels like you did that solely to make my mouth water?
(... making the pic extra large does confirm that...)

Oh, by the way:
Only now I discovered that the (plastic?) cowel that stands IN FRONT of the heater unit and is held by the two lower arms of the panel in my pic is missing on Jimmy.
What is it for and how important do you rate it?

Dear Pilkie, Spot on! That is the one on the left of your photograph. Many thanks for your interest. Alanj.

Guten Morgen Stefan, The plastic cowl that you refer to is in fact a fibreglass chopped strand mat. It is very important that it is refitted because it acts as a heat insulating pad and helps as a sound deadening insulator. You could make one of those too! Viel Spaß, Alanj.

The reason for the pic was to confirm this was the part Alanj wanted!
And to say its not a breaker was to stop anyone asking if it or bits of it were for sale!
Should of resized the pic, sorry if it made your mouth water! Now sorted!
The front cowel is actually a thick padding like sound deadening, heat pad material.

I've got a couple of spare heater boxes, if you're still after one.

Send me a PM and I'll dig out some pictures..

Dear Chrisw, Thank you for your response. It is not the heater box complete that I am looking for, it is the left hand operating rod and fork that I need, please. I would be prepared to pay a reasonable amount for the part or make a donation to the forum. Whichever you think best. No need to dig out any pictures. Kind regards, Alanj.

HI guys,

I did get on quite well until today!! :D

I cleaned, sandblasted and "Fertan"-ed (... I THINK I HAVE TO PUT THAT "COPYRIGHT-c-in-a-circle" HERE!!!  This is some sort of agent that transforms rust too ... metal (?) and I do not remember the British equivalent!) and washed and primered the box and some parts and am about to order the demister/matrix and rubber stuff.
Also I am about to have the one plate made - just for luxury reasons :D 8)

THANKS for your tips on the fibreglas cowl - same stuff that is underneath the unit I presume - and PLEASE let me know should you spot anything rubbery (...one of the big seals that go to the passenger compartment....) as even ScottsOldAutoRubber has nothing new.

Oh:
Jimmys engine compartment and underside will be dry-ice-blasted before the heater goes back in - a once in a lifetime opportunity I could even convince Heike of!! 8) 8) 8) :!:

I´ll let you know what´s happening!

Good luck with your operating rod, Alanj, and: Where are you and where did you learn your German?

Ta-ta!

stefan

Guten Tag Stefan, The best replacement foam you can use for the heater box cover plate is a closed cell EPDM/Neoprene mix closed cell cellular rubber density of 110/130 KG/M3 Black. Not the open cell yellow Polyurethane foam 30/40 KG/M3 which crumbles with age. In answer to your other two questions I will send a PM . Alles Gute, Alanj.
