Heater drain tubes........

Hi, my heater drain tubes have perished badly, gone very bobbly and crispy, almost like fish batter......anyone know what causes this? Old age, too much heat or just natural causes? Picture is a bit scary, sorry about that. The new one.......does it attach to the eye bracket via the bend and just hang down???

Natural causes, they've often gone completely.

Yep, and make sure they hang down in front of the crossmember, not emptying on top of it.
