heated lines of the rear window

Hello

Could enybody give me some advice , the heated lines of the rear windows do not work.
I have voltage where the lines meet the vertical thicker lines of the rear window(left and right)
But the horizontal lines have all no voltage or resistance. I can not seen that there is damage in the lines.
Could it be that the material of the lines is not good anymore?

I wonder if i should by a new one (a not original one) and how i get rid of the original one if it is not working.

Whatever you do, don't waste your money on one of those little pots of conductive paint which you can supposedly use to touch in any breaks on the lines. They are nigh on impossible to use and don't work in my experience.

I agree with your comment about the paint, I use conductive epoxy, it looks a bit ugly but it works. To find the break, get a voltmeter set to 12 volts. Put one probe on one end of the heated screen and slid the other probe down the line. Where the volts jump from 12 volts to zero is the site of the break.

Hi.
When these cars were a lot newer your screen normally had a element or 2 not working due to them being a bit mistreated/ damaged when cleaned.
Nowadays they dont work because all of the elements have corroded, If you look carefully you will find much of them now missing altogether.
Have a couple of screens in my stock like this.
Never had much success with the paint to repair even on some of our newer cars which come in as part exchange.
Clive.

Thank you for your advice!
I will try to remove the old one and go for an aftermarket one because i drive the car also in wintertime.

Hi Joop.
There is another alternative if you don't have tinted glass.
You may be lucky to find a early series 1 car, these had a heated non tinted screen as an extra but were laminated with a very fine almost invisible elements just like the type fitted on newer Ford cars.
Had one on my series 1 and worked fine.
Could try Wins Internal to see if they have one.

That's what Sleipnir has... Works but seems pretty slow to clear. Wondered if a relay might improve matters....?

The embedded wire rear screen also came in tinted glass, but they are very rare. But they also have problems, very common for the foil "tail" that exits the bottom of the glass to be damaged by installation & removal, making the screen inoperative.

Vern

Hi Vern.
Have seen a picture of early heated tinted screen in my NADA sales brochure as an extra but all the NADAS
Ive seen ( including my own) have the later Type fitted.
Regards.
Clive.
