Headrests?

Hi all

When waiting for my good lady to come out from a shop a lady kindly parked into my rear. This was particularly strange because her slightly drunk husband was watching her in. It was a tiny hit, and nothing was bent or broken (right on the towbar, so would have gone bad for her had it been harder). But it was enough to move the car about a bit. That got me thinking that there really is not much protection with the early seats with no headrests on them - is there anything I can do to fix this (i.e. adding headrests)? Or is it a job for a different set of front seats? Obviously there's no plan to get rear ended but you never know...

much appreciated :)

Rob, is yours a series one or two? 1970 could be either couldn't it?
Do they not have the plastic blanking plate on the top of your seats?
I'm sure you could retrofit the female part that's built into the later seats from some scrap ones etc, then fit either style of headrest..
Are you seats in good order otherwise?

By the way, you're still running points in your mallory right?
How's it all performing?
My posts in V8 section today might be of interest regarding ignition amplifiers

hi,
series two head rest brackets are moulded built in and can not be removed to fit series one seats, how ever a scrap pair of series one seats with headrest brackets in them can be taken apart and put into yours as they are removeable. there are if i remember apart from screws a couple of pop rivets ( it has been several years since i did it )

As Ian says. Beg borrow or steal a naff set of seats that have the fabric back and headrest sockets. These will be early series 2 before they went over to the hard fibreglass back. When you remove the back of the seat you'll see that there is a metal fabrication screwed to the seat frame to carry the headrest socket with a couple of nylon fillers each side to blend the line of the back. Ie the top of the seat finishes up wider than the original. These three components simply unscrew and can be transferred to your current seats. The back of the seat will still fit and you will find sufficient vinyl lurking under the back cover for the top of the seat to bestretched over the extra width. A 20 minute job!

Cheers fellas -they re indeed the 'early' type S1 seats with no headrest capacity.

will keep an eye out for slightly newer seats - presumably not too new or the trick won't work.

I have got the series 1 seats.
How to remove the back of the seats without damaging them!

Thx and regards, Robert

Chris you are making this sound easy but where does Robert start with this? I think this needs videoing ;)

Video would be great! However it would already help to inform me where to start with removing the backpanel of the seats.

There are two clips at the bottom of the seat back which need bending away from the frame.

Then push the seat back upwards - it may need pulling from the top. The retaining clips in the back will come out of their slots with a bit of luck, & the back will be off!

Thx! I found the 2 clips at the bottom. Is mounting back easy with the remaining retaining clips in the back? Or are any tricks needed?

Removal is just the reverse procedure, but you may find that the clips in the back are a little loose or the backboard is damaged, in which case your only option to get a tight fir will be glue of some sort (I haven't done this yet & still have a bit of a gap where I did mine...;))

I changed the headrests successfully at the series 1 seats! Thx for help. It took me a bit more than 20 minuts as 4 new holes had to be drilled in.
Now I have left over 1 right side frontseat in toledo red! Reasonable/good condition. 1 rip of 9cm, top part right-side has been covered by some new fabric in matching colour.
Location Amsterdam, Netherlands.
Comes from a LHD car.
