HEADREST & SEATBELT WANTED

I would tend to agree with Pilkie. Unless I bring the passenger's headrest well up there's no restriction of view to mention. I'd hate the idea of not having headrests in my car. Statistics show that with the increased safety of modern cars, owners tend to feel safer and let their driving guard down... But do go for ETs, the teardrop ones I had in my last car sat too far back to be of any good use to me. ETs are also very comfy.

Anyone remember those universal clip-on headrests from the 70's ? Apparently worse than useless for protection. If your headrest is too low it can do nasty things to your neck in a rear end shunt

Hi, Can anybody advise me where is the best place to buy good quality door rubber? Mine have split on the leading edge of the back doors.
Also the best place to get the service parts. And how do you easily find out the parts no, and parts from other vehicles which will fit the p6.

My door mirror where it joins to the stalk has a split letting water to get behind the mirror, the stalk itself is in good condition but I need the mirror part, you can see the one I am after in the photos .
Thanks for the advice I have been given on headrest & seatbelt, I have now got the seatbelts but I am still looking for the headrest.

Hi Kevin

Most of the P6 suppliers will stock door rubbers - Rover-Classics, Wynns, JRW etc. Reproduction rubber is a bit varaible in quality - do a search on here, Quattro for one has some strong opinions. Personally i have bought all my rubbers from Scotts in Australia (http://www.scottsoldautorubber.com.au/Rover P6 2000, P6B 3500.htm). All have been very good quality and worth the wait for it to arrive.

Service parts, go to your local motor factor to start with, then to Rover-Classics, Wynns etc. There has been some interesting discussion on here about suitable oil filters, should come up easily with a search. Things like spark plugs and air filters are frequently also on Ebay.

The door mirror may be a bit of a problem. They are very expensive to buy new off Ebay. I may have a spare mirror head - but it is minus glass, which is how it got to be a spare! Getting the glass in and out is a skill I have yet to master, they come out in many pieces for me! If you'd like to have a go with my spare, pm me and we can sort out sending it to you.

Talking of ET's, I bought a couple locally from ebay (for about £15 I think) a while back and have fitted the black one in the Bruiser as the new passenger seat has the headreast fitting in it. The ET had no silver button so I thought it was a fixed one which surprised me when I got it but I didn't look too closely, just put it on the shelf.
Cleaning it up the other day I see that it is indeed adjustable but you push the button through the vinyl (or whatever the side material is).
This was a first for me having previously only seen them with the chrome button.

Hi Chris, I got some rubbers for the leading edge of the rear wings off ebay nos, and i will get the door ones from scotts. Thankyou for the offer for the mirror head, I have got one now the mirror was damaged so i replaced it by soaking in hot water for 5 min and the mirror came out ok with a small knife i used the old mirror as a template to cut out a new one and sanded it down with wet & dry and it turned out ok

thanks for the advice Kevin.

The Rovering Member : It's very difficult indeed to replace the silver buttomn once it has come off. I suspect you might find a small hole for the button remaining in the vinyl, or that the headrest has been recovered and the button not replaced!

Kevin: Pleased to hear you've won with the mirror. I must try that warm water technique next time!

Hi Chris
I replaced the mirror on the wing today, I got the mirror out the same way as the door mirror by placing it face down in about half inch of hot water in a shallow dish, then after 5 min or so I eased it out with a small knife and it came out in one piece :D Instead of using the mirror as a template, I put a piece of paper on top of the mirror head and run a pencil around the rim to get the pattern, I then cut out the pattern transferred it onto a thin piece of plastic and used this for the template for cutting out the mirror, I found this way easier because the glass cutter wheel will run along the edge of the plastic but I found if you use a card the wheel cuts into it and you need to guide it around but by using the plastic template you just butt the wheel against the plastic and run it around.
The mirror I cut out is a better fit than the old one :D (The new mirror i used has a plastic film on the back and a bit thinner than the old one which make it easyer to cut)

There's no hole so it may well have been recovered then. If so it's a very good job & looks original.
I have now got the headrest they are in good condition and look very nice fitted :D I have not located the hole for the knob yet as I am busy getting my panels back on the car while the weather is good.
