Head & fog light switch

Hi all just a quick question. I not sure of the correct wiring connections for the headlight switch for my 1967 2000tc. I seem to have either no headlights on or all four lights on. Sidelights seem to work ok as normal. including the four connections the switch is numbered 1 to 8 as per diagram plus an additional connection on the rear of the switch. Does anyone know whether it's the right switch for the car and if so which way round the wiring should be. Any help much appreciated.

You turn the lights on with the dash switches and select main/dip with the LH column switch.
The headlight switch - to the right of the ignition key - only turns the headlamps on & 0ff and the sidelights have to be on already. This one does not select Main/Dip.
This function is on the dipswitch to the left of the steering column.
If the dip lever is up when you turn the headlamps on then you will get all four lamps lit - if the lever is down then you get the dip beam (outer 2 lamps)
When the lights are all turned off on the dash switches the dip/main stays at the position selected so you can easily get main beam when you turn the dash switch back on.

It's a pretty logical design, but 50 years old and different conventions prevail nowadays

The problem must lie between the dip switch and the lamps, since the main beams work and all connections are common up to that point. At the risk of asking a silly question, have the dip filaments blown in the outer lamps?

Thanks for reply no such thing as a silly question! As far as I know lamps are ok but car has been off the road 24 years I'm just not sure the switch is wired correctly or working correctly will check lamps later .....

If you are concerned whether its the right switch, a picture would help. Presumably it had been disconnected at some time. According to my diagram there are possibly four wires to the switch. Red from light switch ( terminal 1) and blue out to the dip switch(Terminal 8) , the other two not used unless you have auxiliary lights . Its just an on/off for headlights, the dip switch switching from main to dip & vice versa. According to how I read your post the headlamps come on, so the headlight switch must work, if the dip switch isn't doing anything, that could be at fault. Does the headlamp flash work?

Think the help has cracked it will double check tomorrow thanks for all the helpful comments. hopefully it's the right switch!

Red & yellow wires are to the ancillary lighting. According to my manual the blue/red wire should be from dip switch to headlights
