Am using Tiny Pic for some years, in my opinion the simplest and fastest freeware to downsize your foto files.
Here is the original link, click on the British flag for your language. For private use it is free

Open Tinypic, open your explorer. Tinypic stays on the screen as well as your explorer. Make simple presetting on Tinypic (i.e. 1024x768 is ok for this forum), then drag and drop files from explorer to Tinypic window, that´s it.
