Grab a bargain set of seats

YET!!
Buy refurb/restore at your leisure for a set to fit later or sell on!

I'm pretty :D close and will be keeping an eye on these. Been after a leather interior for a while and this is the closest I've seen one to me.

I know this is going a little offtopic, but can anyone confirm if I have leather seats?

They look like leather, but they don't feel much like leather to me...

I was wondering if anyone has any tips for rejuvenating them, as they feel a little dry. :)

I understand products are available to treat leather seats with to avoid this.

Yep, they're leather.

At least the bit you put your bum on, and the bit you lean against is leather, the rest is vinyl.

I did mine with a woolies kit, came up nice and supple.

I have to say that I have seen brians seats and he has done a really excellent job on them!
It isnt a quick job,and its quite messy at times, and you do have to be really patient and dont try to rush it as thats when things go wrong, also the stuff/wollies kit takes its time to do the job properly, but its prompted me into either refurbing the spare set of bronze ones ive got,or doing the ones in the car!

Excellent, thanks.

I'll have to get some for my P6 then - added to the 'to do' list.

Done!

I hadn't clocked on to the buy it now so thanks Pilkie. That'll be another little job cleaning and feeding them to keep me busy.

:D

Well done!
Glad I was of help to a fellow owner!!
See what else of the interior you can winkle out of him for the same price,as he does state,
"complete interior"!! like carpet, gloveboxes, underlay, door pulls/handles etc!
I think you will find this style of seat more comfortable than box pleat!
A useful tip is,if you can find a good passenger seat, you can use the base and foam etc to refurbish the drivers seat!
As its common that the drivers seats get a little soft, its quite often the case for the passenger ones to be still firm!!

He's already told me he has the gloveboxes too which he'll include. I could use some underlay for the drivers side as well so I'll quiz him further, or maybe see what I can see when I pick this lot up  you never know what's hiding round the corner. Speaking of which, I found a complete P6 V8 engine and autobox in a local garage that the guy says I can help myself to bits from. He will even keep it at his place and let me take bits when I need them :D

I suspect the engine has not been turned over for some time but I'll have a good look at it when I have time over the hols.

To Tofufi. I have leather seats in my 3500, and I use the following: Autoglem Leather Cleaner, Autosmart Leather Rejuvenator, and if you can get it, a bottle of Leather Sofa Cleaner for use on stubborn spots. Don't use detergent as it just destroys the natural oils in the leather, use instead the Autoglem Leather Cleaner. Use the rejuvenator sparingly. The best method is slow, easy, gentle thin layers taking care to work into the seams & folds, every week until the leather has absorbed the rejuvenator. Another product to use once the leather has formed a surface again, is Autoglem Leather Care Cream, this is more of a maintenance layer/product, in my view! Finally, a word of caution: If you put any of these products on in a thick layer, then don't sit in the car with good trousers, as you will develop a "shiny butt"!!

I shall be using all of the above this winter. A good time to do it!

If you are going to do it in your garage, for instance, may I suggest good ventilation. And also a small dining room chair (or similar) is useful to sit on outside the car facing the seats, to work on the leather. The side of the seats get's the most wear getting in & out of the car! The chair cuts out the bending & you are sitting at about the right level!

Hope this helps.

Dave, I'm in West Linton out at my 2000tc until Wednesday, knowing from experience its a bit a pain to get p6 interior in a p6 on top of the existing interior I'm willing to offer you a had to get the seats etc in the back of my bro's Mondeo if you like. The weather here has pretty much put my car on shut down 'til the snow thaws out so I now have a few days to kill time.

Just let us know as 8 miles from me is Biggar, ergo Lanarkshire.

Fraser

Thanks for the offer. Yeah I wasn't planning on trying to get another complete P6 interior in my P6  . We have another, modern, car which will be big enough with the rear seats folded down. My P6 is soldiering on through the snow at the moment. It's been a bit of a shock for her but she's coping very well :D .

Cheers

Dave

Gents

Have just returned from a trip out to collect these seats and I decided to leave them. Apart from anything else they had been sat outside in the cold and wet for quite some time so were soaked through. I got the distint impression that they were not leather. The material was very hard and pretty dirty and I also don't think they were the same colour as the ones in the photo posted on eBay.

They were the same colour as my own interior and I thought they were made of the same material. This is where my inexperience of these cars is starting to tell. Now I've had a couple of cars with leather interior and there is just something about them that says they are leather. Generally soft material and with a distinct leather smell. These seats had neither. I've checked my parts catalogue and it does not list a flat pleat interior in ambla. Could anyone confirm if such an interior was made please and how to positively identify ambla/leather interior?

cheers

Dave

They are leather!!
There were a few sets of flat pleat made in ambla, but most are black and they wouldnt suffer the same as aged leather does,it cracks like sunburnt skin and hard with dirt over the years if not cleaned, almost like a crust on top.
It takes a hell of a lot to restore them.
It doesnt help that the owner of the seats doesnt seem to ave taken any care of them by leaving them outside in the cold and wet.
Ebay pics can be deceptive on colour, and I suspect they were darker than expected

Thanks Pilkie

I think they would've needed quite a bit of work to restore them. I'd've been happy to take them and have a go if they'd been dry stored. Is there any way of telling whether my box pleat seats are leather or ambla then? This is how they look (pic taken from original ad for car):

I appreciate it's not easy from a picture, but have I in fact got leather and I've just mis-identified them as ambla because I'm not sure :?

Maybe I'll just get some leather feed and see what happens.

Cheers

Dave
