And there....IMG_3532 - Copy.JPG

........she was gone !

We have had so much fun with these cars, and IMG_3569.JPGit has been a pleasure to be amongst you all, but all good things come to an end.

Lockdown has been a time for a re focus, and I have decided that I have too many cars to look after, and I seem to spend all my time fixing this one or that one.
So I bought a more modern classic, and have thinned out the older fleet today with two cars gone, the Elan I owned for 38 years went as well.

Much sadness, but a weight lifted, and the satisfaction that they were in fine fettle when they went and had not deteriorated into scrap.

See you on the road peeps.

Mark

I bet the bloke who drove off in the Rover was like a dog with two d*cks.....

He had that look about him that gave away his lack of sleep the night before.

He drove it from Suffolk to Leighton Buzzard, I got a nice text saying the car drove well. His plan is to Continental tour the Rover, something that is a bucket list job for me, but it won't be in the Rover now.

Two lovely cars.. but I do know the feeling.

So what's the more modern car?

With an ownership history going back to an 80 Avant, Audi estates have long been a fixture for us. Recently the 2013 S line Quattro displayed troublesome electrical maladies, so it was dispatched.
After researching the market, the original RS4 from 2000 - 2001 is on a steady rise in terms of values and desirability, so I bagged one.

With a box file of receipts going back to the original purchase invoice and underside condition to match the top side I think it was a rare find.

An alternator failure on the drive home followed by an electric cooling fan falling apart gives an indication that there will still be jobs to do, but anything major will now be given to a trusted motor mechanic, the arthritis is gradually stopping me from crawling underneath.

Oh and it does not smell of old felt, which does please Snr management !

Well done for biting the bullet, Mark! That’s something many of us will be secretly admiring - I’ve still got 3 P6s on the road & it really is too many

Best wishes for the future - do keep popping back - it is always interesting to hear about how other cars are going!

Blimey! That's a shame. I always enjoyed your contributions to this forum. I wish you well for your post-P6 life. I dare say it won't be too long until you realise you need another one. ;)

Me too.

I bought a 1.9 TDi A4 estate back in early 2000, and have had an Audi daily driver ever since. I can't seem to get the hang of not bothering to indicate though and find tailgating scary, so don't do that :p

My second Audi was a 1998 A4 2.8 quattro, which was the car that persuaded me to give up motorcycling (nearly). I was just as much fun but easier to dress for, didn't get wet in the rain and difficult to fall off it.

Then a 2.4 A6 quattro (not a good choice), a 2.7 twin turbo A6 quattro (Wow), then a variety of 3.0 TDi A6s and an A8.

My current A6 Allroad is a beast - 320bhp, and 650NM of torque. It's a sports car, a van, a 4x4, a tractor, a comfortable family cruiser, and more.

Nice !
Thanks guys. The P6 bug will never leave me, when I was around 8 years old I told my father I would own one, and I did.

So I am now an enthusiast instead of an owner, It's all a bit strange. I have even had to change my Silverstone Classic ticket, as they won't let me onto the P6 stand without a P6. I Said I had a Rover powered 'special' but it did not cut the mustard

As you were.

Wow I just step out for a little while and bam! Hope it’s gone to a good home, you put a lot of things into practice on that car and your dedication to testing has been noted dearly Mark.
When mine is finally done and at shows I’ll take you for a spin
Jim

Sad to hear you have parted ways with the P6, I was hoping to pick your brains about a few things when my "Roundtuit" arrived for me to dig mine out the garage and start fixing her up.

Who da thought a set of Carlos Fandango wheels and bit of papier mache would have caused such a stir eh !
Jim, you popped out for a little more than a bit ! It is now up to you to entertain the troops and provide sharp intake of breath moments that bring forth the classic phrase 'Oh I wouldn't have done it like that'

The offer of a ride is logged and saved thank you.

I checked the rules, I think I am allowed to post whilst P6 less so I may still stir the pot as it were.

BTW I have a shed full of P6 spares that I would like to go to keeping another car/s on the road, so will be putting up a list soon.

John, you can pick away, but there is not a lot in there.

I hate to have to tell you this , sometimes you dont know what you had until its gone.
Good luck for the future without a P6.
It took me 8 years to chase my P6 down after selling it and get it back.
Just sayin.

Nope, don't want one, never liked them, can't understand the attraction at all .........
