Get them while they're young

My eldest daughter fell in love with Metros when she saw a friend's beautiful Azure blue mk1 MG Metro 1300. Obviously insurance can be a bit of an issue, so we had to point out that when she hits 17 and learns to drive (just over a year from now) she'd probably have to get something more ordinary to use whilst building up some NCB.

In the meantime, we arranged to buy a an 1100cc Rover 100 Knightsbridge SE as her first car. The insurance should be manageable on that once she's passed her test and done "Pass Plus". We arranged to have it delivered whilst she was away visiting a friend, but the photos here show her reaction when she came back and saw it. I think it was a hit!!

The year and a bit will give me time to tidy it up a bit but it's a one owner 22,700 mile car with MOT so can't be bad for about £700. She doesn't yet know that I've also bought a mk1 MG which she can swap it for once we can afford the insurance.

I got my son a bog standard 1.0 Metro for his first car 15 yrs ago. Last year, after having a varied selection of fast cars he told me "I was mad at you for getting the Metro, but it taught me to drive, look ahead to maintain motion, and probably saved my life" Amazingly he didn't roll it into a ball, but then went onto 205's, things ending in i, and eventually got 6 months walking due to driving a red Scooby very fast on too many occasions. All because I got him a Metro

Very good Richard :D . Glad she's happy. Passing your test and getting your first car is a big event.

they should have been britains nissan micra ,i dont feel either love or hate for them , i remember my mates metro mg turbo (i think) being good fun , and another mate who was rear ended at about 15mph and the car was written off , the rear floor buckled but maybe it was designed to do this , they seemed enormously flimsy but to be honest things like fiat pandas are the same, good luck, rich

I had a rover100 Knightsbridge but mine was in red, turns out that oil leaks dont cure themselves when it finally seized!

I also owned an MG metro..... bought it to take the brakes and engine out of for my mini :) then scrapped it! :p
