Gearbox wont return to the middle position

Hi. I've recently purchased a 1965 2000SC. The problem I have is the gear lever won't return to the middle position on its own. All the gears select OK and it doesn't jump out of reverse. It's just annoying. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions as to what may be causing the problem?
Thanks in advance.
Dave.

Rover P6 manual gearboxes were not fitted with a gear lever bias spring, so it is normal to behave like this.

I also found this strange at first. You could probably use an old carburettor return spring on the base on the gearstick to pull it back against the reverse stop. That might help delete and vibration in 4th at higher rpm as well.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll definitely try that. As you said there is vibration in 4th.
