Full Lock Problems

Had a lot of fun with my 22tc p6 (1000 miles in the last month!) no probs except a sort of cracking noise has developed (which I can feel through the steering) when going on either full lock.

No steering issues at any other time. Tightened the idler arm to bulkhead nuts and whilst a bit of additional tension was acheived, there is no improvement any suggestions as to whats going wrong? thanks
 
Is it manual or power steering? If you raise the front to allow the wheels to hang and then move from lock to lock, is the noise there still? Can you enlist the help of a friend to listen for the purpose of pin pointing the noise whilst you turn the steering wheel?

Had the same issue with my V8 after the restoration. I'd remover the idler and tightened them up to what I thought was tight enough (the official Rover manual doesn't give a figure as far as I could find). One of the legends at the local club meet mentioned in passing that he's looked at the bolt heads some time ago and got the torque figures that related to the markings and they were way above comfortable! I'll see if I've still got the info around and post it, this extra tightness cured my problem
